Is it me,
or is it that every time someone mentions what their kid wants for Christmas, there's at least one DUer to say something like "can't this kid get a job" or "s/he's gonna be disappointed on xmas morning". Maybe this time of year brings out the chrotchety old man in everyone. :shurg:

1. I think many may be reacting to what they perceive
as excess materialism among many kids of all ages in the US. Also, a lot of DUers are in their 30s and 40s and may be awestruck that a kid would have the chutzpah to ask for a $400 gift for Christmas with real expectations that it will be under the tree.

3. $400.00!!!!
Get this- my 12 yr old daughter wants a Segway at a price tag of $4500.00. She thinks if all the grandparents, her Dad and I pool all our money we can get her one. She was shocked to hear that even if we do put all our money together the total comes no where near the $4500 total!! So I told her she would just fall off and hurt herself but she came back with "I'm not George Bush, I want fall off" How can she be so smart assed in some areas and so dumb in others? I attribute it to the screwed up homones at her age.

7. I don't know - I haven't seen any posts like that.
Of course, I do miss a good deal. :)

Two of my children aren't old enough for jobs. The one that IS old enough for a job - and buys a lot of her own stuff - is still getting Christmas presents.
