Calling Bobby Darin fans ....
The Kevin Spacey movie "Beyond The Sea" is shortly to be released
in Oz - Darin was one of my very favorite singers, and I've heard
good things about the film. But - will I be disappointed? I can't
imagine anyone singing his songs as he could, but I'm curious.

Any Darin fans who've seen the film, what did you think?

1. Haven't seen the movie
but I have heard Spacey sing (like on SNL or something) and his voice is decent, so hopefully it'll be good.

2. I like Kevin Spacy, but I doubt he'll be able to compete with Jamie Foxx

as Ray Charles.

Bobby Darin was great (for this times). And quite a hellion as well, so I understand. Should really be an interesting movie.

3. Bobby Darin?
I dunno about that. I hear Bobby Darin and I recall the 2nd worst era of the rock'n'roll of my youth, the pre-beatles horror show, eclipsed only by the dreaded Disco Era, and perhaps by the current crop of crap.

7. His early stuff was very ordinary, typical early rock nonsense,
but from "Mack the Knife" onwards, he matured, and I think his
more serious work still stands up superbly today, up there in the
Steve Lawrence category.

5. I do want to see the movie, but
based on the previews, I'm having a REALLY hard time buying 45-year-old Kevin Spacey as 24-year-old Bobby Darin.

I have heard that Kevin does a wonderful job with the singing, though.

Kevin Spacey is an excellent actor, but I just can't imagine him portraying a young Bobby Darin.
