MY NEW COMPUTER ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to get a tower and decided to get a dell again. I had a deal on this over the web, getting a 17" monitor and color printer FREE! Excuse my glee. I have labored in the wilderness for years. It has a 3.40 Ghz processor and a Gig of ram. HUZZAH! A friend who parcels computer space for Southwest bell told me to NEVER go less than 1 gig for RAM and the fastest processor you can afford. She was right. I could fly a jet with this. :-D

Couple this with my mom's iBook G4 mac what I got her for Christmas and we are ready to rumble.

5. I have a trs-80 model 3 and a model 100
The model 3 has a crt problem I am working on though. I hope to buy a used trs-80 model 1 soon (I have the emulator running on my windows box).

I used to own a ti-99a myself, cool graphics at the time for me (though the Amiga spanked the competition).

Ah the old days, got me all teary eyed!

6. I remember when I first got the TI.....
I wrote this pitiful program (in TI Basic) where I made a graphic on the screen of a Baby.
I finally figured out how to make the Baby crawl.
If it would have been real it would have moved about .0001 MPH. :)

4. Uh, you running windows on it ;)
Running a 4 processor sun server with a gig ram and 12 hard drives. Not as fast in some ways, but man can it crunch numbers!

Glad you got a system you are happy with. I am looking for a new one next year myself (I build my own usually, but dell would be my choice if buying) , but busy building a system from old systems and parts (combining some 166 systems with other ones into a rack I have and modding the case to look retro nasa. Linux all the way running kde and gnome on them, solely for crunching numbers).

I take it you have an older system laying about? If you don't want to part with it consider something like vector linux running kde (which is ok, partial to gnome myself). You can get a lot of life out of it and still surf the web and post here (and use vnc and you don't need the extra monitor and KB, which is how I get into my other systems from p166 to p650 ones).

As a techie feel free to let me know if you need any help on anything. If I don't know it I can look for the answers pretty efficiently.

You made the right choice ram wise. My old windows machine runs 512 and is pretty fast on MSSQL, but not a gaming machine. If you need any assistance from freeware to hardware let me know, glad to help out a fellow DU'er.

The PC you have can do a lot, from acting as a PVR to gaming (of course, video card comes into play here) to running data base software (of course, depends on the OS version and database choice). Again, if you need anything in the way of help let me know, what I don't know my engineers will. Have fun, and don't go off gaming and forget us!!!
