Perhaps because of the surface tension - once the sponge is already damp, the surface tension has already been broken, then the water molecules can cling to each other more readily.

Not sure -- I'd have to research that one.

Anyway, I do know that there is absolutely no truth to the wives' tale that warm water freezes faster than cold water.

and some fabrics like wool repel less and less the warmer and steamier water is!
you're right it's the surface tension thing- that's the science behind it. I can never remember the molecular details!

I was on your couch. And I have to tell you, it wasn't very comfortable. ;)

Actually, I slept in Jersey City at the Doubletree, but spent the days at the office in Hoboken. I love NYC, and have only spent limited time there, so I was very distraught to find that our NYC headquarters had moved to Hoboken, and that they weren't even puttting us up across the river, like civilized people.

Yeah, it's a lumpy couch, but now I can call my apt "the house of bettys". !
I can't believe they put you up there, there was a much better/ closer place in Weehawwken, you could have ferried to NYC and/or walked to work!
I'm pretty sure the Doubletree is the one where rapper 50 Cent stayed and there were a few shots fired in the parking lot w/ his posse.
The commute from Jersey City to Hoboken is no joke, either. And the Doubletree, what the hell is there to do once the mall closes? Nothing, right?
