342 Hours Without A Cigarette...However, I'm Eating Like A Pig Now |
|
In the last few days I've finished off a bag of cheez doodles and a half a box of Oreos.
Back when I was smoking I hardly ever snacked. Now I'm starving all the time.
I swear, I'm gonna be a huge, non-smoking blimp if I keep this up.
How can I stop the cravings for food without the hunger suppressing powers of nicotine?

2. Chew gum. Buy lots and lots of bubble gum and chew it. |
|
Might I recommend Bubblicious. It'll ruin your teeth, but it'll do nicely to get rid of the nicotine/food addictions.
Brush your teeth 3 times a day when you do this, tho.

8. Stop By the Nearest Major Hospital and........ |

Visit some of the patients in the Cancer Ward.
You may also loose your urge to eat your way into oblivion.

3. I gained 20 lbs after I quit smoking. |
|
I've lost it now (after 5 years), but I am a gum chewing fiend. I think I'm giving myself TMJ. Better than lung cancer, though, huh?
I second the advice to buy lots of gum...

and I emailed him after our first day and he seemed to think I love this damn dog or something.
PS Magic Rat, Congrats on the smoke-stopping. It's hard but worth it. I couldn't keep up with this tiny canine if I were still hacking the butts

They are only 60 calories apiece, take a while to eat (unless you're like the owl on the commercial and bite after three licks), and also satisfy the psychological craving for something to do with the hands.
Beyond that, you might just have to get by on sheer strength of will. Every time you find yourself reaching for a snack, either grab something with some nutritional value or drink a glass of water instead, or go for a walk, or call a friend...whatever you can do to get you by.
Eventually the need will subside.
I've been off the smokes for 6½ years. Good luck to you!

You need to stop obsessing over how long it has been. Trust me on this one. Think about the good things - like how much better food tastes and that you can smell whether or not your clothes are fresh - trust me on this one: they weren't so fresh 342 hours ago.
Hang in there dude - if I can do it, anyone can.

Been there, done that. Five years of abstinence was enough for me! We have to go some way!
I'll quit again when they pry the last cigarette from my cold, dead hands.

It's really an oral thing, but it is also your brain screaming for nicotine molecules. Keep carrot sticks and shit around. I hope you make it. I never did, past six months. You're still very young and kick while you can. Be CAREFUL of gum. It rots your teeth and if you have any weak teeth, suddenly you are spitting chunks.
You might try wellbutrin. It kills the craving and leaves you pretty much normal. But don't take it for long.
