I typed an email to my friend, but i sent it to another friend on my address list. I'm a ass! There was nothing incriminating in the letter, but it still sucks.

1. Did you quickly email the person and let them know
the mistake?

I had to do that once. Embarassing!

Sorry it happened, Gothic_Sponge.

3. that would bite big time.
There should be a way to delete it somehow if they haven't picked it up. That's the one thing I liked about AOL (course it had to be another aol user you were emailing, but hey-) and that I like about work email as well.

 at least it wasn't too personal.

4. I once sent a private note

to an enormous listserv, and it was NOT good! I actually had someone threaten to sue me over it, though I had not used her name in it, just some very derogatory terms for her... funny how she knew I was talking about her, though! :D

5. I once composed a long, detailed email to a friend
and posted it to a very heavily trafficked newsgroup.

Luckily I did it in the middle of the night and was able to get the post removed before too many people saw it.

I did the king of all forehead slaps after I realized what I'd done.

6. That's nothing to be berating yourself for... try this...

A senior director at the company I work for, back when we were getting ready to do layoffs for the first time in the company's history in the tech bubble implosion, went to send a spreadsheet with names, salaries, etc., of a large number of people that they were considering the cost and benefits of laying off to the rest of the directors in the business unit.

However, he had just sent a message to the entire organization, some 200-300 people, announcing the resignation of another director in protest over the layoffs.

When he went to send the spreadsheet, his email autocompleted the address. But the alias for his director reports had the same initial text as the alias for all of his reports. So that's what it autocompleted to. He sent the spreadsheet to his entire organization.

*doh*.

7. No worries at all.
You must've missed my infamous "I just accidentally sent my girlfriend's mom porn. Ask me anything" thread from the summer of 2003. I'll dig it up for you once the search function becomes available again.

;-)

8. I once replied to a message
This guy was going on about a cave we went to. I replied that I would have explored more of it, but we smoked so much pot that I could barely move.

Then it showed up in my in-box as a response to a caving list-serv. Which meant it had gone out to about 40 other cavers, some of whom are cops. DOH! I still flinch when I think of that one.
