And now, my complete collection of lenticular 3-D religious postcards
The first ones I found: Mary of the Miraculous Medal and Sacred Heart of Jesus. Lenticular action: the beams from her hands and his head flash when you turn the cards.

Some more Mary action: Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of the Snows. No real movement, just 3-D.

The latter I bought at the shrine. It's located in IL not far from St. Louis, and it's a trip: drive-by Stations of the Cross, replicas of Lourdes and other shrines, a gift shop to die for (but they don't like it when you giggle at their stuff.) Check 'em out at www.snows.org.

Now let's mix it up with a little Muslim fun. Here's Mecca lenticulated with two views of the Holy Mosque - long shot and close-up.

And back to Jebus! Here he is guarding our nation's highways, and kickin' it 3-D style at the Last Supper.

And back to non-Christian religions. Not quite as tacky as the others but lenticular nonetheless, here is Shiva (I think).

Finally, the favorite of my collection, Christ is dead. Christ is risen! He's dead. He's risen! Dead. Risen! Dead. Risen! The key miracle of the Christian faith, encompassed in one flick of the wrist.

:hi:

I'm jealous. I have quite a few lenticulars, but nothing this cool or vintage.

4. Drive-by stations of the cross??? Doesn't that defeat the purpose??
Gah... I seem to recall the point was to walk - or if you were really faithful, crawl on hands and knees or knee walk - to re-enact the pain and suffering of Christ on the way to the cross...

Are you related to my brother in law? He collects Catholic paraphernalia, too.... He's got a house full of statuary (including this scary life-size angel that looms over the bed in the guest room....)

8. You can walk it, too - or crawl
It's been 20 years since I visited, but you could stop at each station and take your place on the padded kneelers - and when you did, speakers would start blasting holy-sounding music and a prayer crafted for that station.

I used to collect all kinds of religious stuff, but as I get older I become more anti-clutter and anti-dusting so I sell it or give it away. I always wanted a crucifix with a clock in the belly, though...yep, I'm going to hell... :D

9. This is what I just sold on eBay

Mirrored and foiled cross background with a plastic chromed Christ mounted on it, old thick glass with scalloped edges, brass wire frame...Japanese guy bought it. I'll miss it but I'm sure he'll give it a good home.

10. oooooh...jesus clock with color wheel
Reminds me of a summer day years ago sifting through stuff at the late, great Maxwell Street markets, and coming across a huge framed religious clock with a color portrait of Martin Luther King Jr on one side, John F Kennedy on the other, all surrounded by an ornate gilt metal frame and trimmed with dusty plastic roses. I wanted it bad but didn't want to drag it around - the gilt frame was rusting and painful to the touch - so I thought I'd come back for it later. I never did, and now Maxwell St is gone, and I'm sure that clock is sitting in some retro shop with a much bigger price tag on it. Meeemmmm'ries....

12. Kitschtastic
You'd think Jesus could have got a bigger table for the last supper. Maybe it was a late booking?
