Day 3 no smoking...going insane right now. |
|
I am so very close to going out in the cold and buying a pack or buying one off of a bum...
any ex-smokers out there have some helpful kind words on how to get past this?
caveat: sorry, but reminders of how healthy I will be/feel don't make me feel any better during a nic fit.

5. I wish the gum or patch were a good option for me... |
|
gum makes me violently nauseous and dr's tell me not to do the patch because I have low blood pressure. (i don't understand that, but whatever) so I am solo on this effort.
HUGE congrats on 54 days! I hope I can do as well. Was this your first REAL effort to quit?
I have had many little half-assed efforts, but this is the second true effort. my first lasted three months.

22. This is actually my third attempt. |
|
But I've just made up my mind that I want to live a little longer. So going back to smoking is not an option. I'm using the Law of Mind Action that says "Thoughts held in mind, produce after their kind". It's working. You might want to try one of those nicotine inhalers. Good luck...

I think I will stay on DU and type like a madwoman, chew some gum, and when the taste wears out I will do the dishes. then knit. then pull my hair out! J/K. Thanks for the kind words, this thread is already helping.

I am STILL, after 5 years straight, wrestling with the demon Nicodemus .... I chew nicotine gum, when I can get enough money to buy some ... and I chew it like a thirsty man drinks water ...
Nicotine is SUCH a powerful drug, and we tend to ignore that ...
Remember the first time you inhaled ? ...
Remember the tingly feeling all over ?? ..
Remember the flushed face and buzz in your head ???
Remember the beads of sweat on your brow and the dizziness ?
Nicotine, through cigarette delivery, is hardly different from crack cocaine ...
No WONDER we fret and pace for it ....
I have resorted to using the Jack Trimpey AVRT tactic ...
I tell my inner addictive voice, craving his nicotine-drug-of-choice .... NO ! ...
NO, I scream inside to that voice: YOU CANT HAVE IT ! ....
The feelings dwindle, if only for a few hours ....
I feel for you .... It is hard ....

somehow it helps to know i am not alone. I know on a realistic logical level that this is normal and millions of people go thru it each day, but on a basic SUFFERING level, I feel totally alone. I am the first person ever to have a craving for nicotine, and there is something wrong with me because I want it and hate it simultaneously.
damn.

the sole reason I am quitting is because I want to get pg. this addiction knows no reason and no morals and no politics. My will is only strong for the thought of a baby, not myself. Sad, but honest. I couldn't care less about any other reason, no offense, it is just that strong of an addiction.
I love to smoke. I hate to smoke. I hate what it does to my mind and my body, but I love to smoke nonetheless. it's really fucked up.
I understand what you mean on an intellectual level, but this is not intellectual, my craving to smoke. I am a crazy person at this point, so please know that I appreciate your meaning, but...
edited to add: thank you very much for trying to help and encourage me! I mean it. Thank you.

20. Yeah, I know what you mean (not personally, I've never smoked) |
|
But I'm just saying, you can think of it as icing on the cake.
Honestly though, I really can't relate. I've never smoked before and I've never understood it at all. I know how addictive it can be though, through friends and family.
So I have no advice really, just trying to add to the positive thoughts that might help you out.

16. Not at all. It's what got me through. I also cut up straws to the length |
|
of cigarettes to keep in my mouth when I was working (which was when I smoked the most). Do whatever gets you through. On the downside, all those straws on the desktop kind of looked like I had a problem with cocaine. MrG used to laugh about it and tell people I was dropping one vice for another. ;)

17. Day three was the absolute worst -- ((hugs)) |
|
For a few hours on that day, I carried around a straw (cut to the right length) and even puffed it from time to time.
I chewed lots and lots of gum -- It gives you one hell of a headache after several hours of constant chewing.
I munched lots -- raw veggies worked the best.
I brushed my teeth quite a bit. (Hand to mouth motion)
I chugged lots of OJ. I'm not sure why, but a big glass of OJ worked wonders on the really bad cravings.
I kept as busy as possible.
The good news is that I made it past day three -- and you will too.
