the Muppets are part of Brit comedy iconography...bet Miss Piggy has secretly struck a deal behind Kermit's back. Tell us Miss Piggy, was it the money? Promises of a starring role in a major Hollywood movie?
This is a sad day...US cultural hegemony has gone too far...I'm...I'm...sorry, I just cant believe it...sniffle...

The original deal for Disney to buy the Muppets and related business died shortly after Jim Henson died. Henson Productions was later purhcased by an foriegn company who eventaully sold the company to Disney at a loss.

We wouldn't be in this mess if Henson was alive today. I think he's possibly history's greatest hippy.
In the UK, Sesame Street is the only show ever on a commercial channel (we have two 'state' channels with no advertising) to regularly run for an hour with no ads. Henson's company insisted on it.
And now his characters are owned by frickin' Disney. I can just see it... "One! Two! Four thousand! Four thousand votes for President Bush! Ah! Ah! Ah!"

8. Big Bird is safe! Sesame Street is NOT Disney owned |
|
Sesame Street and it's Muppet characters were not part of the Disney deal. They are owned by the non-profit Children's Television Workshop. So the Count can continue to teach real math and not Bush math.
I tell ya, some of those voting machines counted votes for Bush like my toddler. Baby Blues just learned to count to five, so put five objects in front of her and she says, "One, Twoo, Tree, Foor, Fie." Then, put three objects in front of her and she'll count them, too, "One, Twoo, Tree, Foor, Fie."
