Poll question: Help me! Should I change jobs?
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 01:30 PM by AmandaRuth
I work at a small pet shop, with a couple of fundy women who voted boosh, (for moral reasons they tell me) who make me absolutely crazy with frustration. It is a tiny storefront in a mall, and we are all trapped together. The pros of this job are their willingness to work my schedule to fit my family needs, (no nights, weekends) and of course, the animals themselves, and the fact I get a big discount on stuff for my own brood of pets. My hourly wage is barely above minimum.

I have an opportunity to work as a barrista (hope that is spelled right), at a stand alone coffee shack. The cons would be that my schedule may be family unfriendly, (nights/weekends). My wage would be barely above minimum. Now, when I get coffee at a drive thru, I tip, but I don't know about the habits of john q public.

I never thought I would be torn between 2 minimum wage crap jobs, but boosh won and here it is..... What to do, what to do.....

1. Are there any other pet shops in the area?

You might try finding other possibilities....there are probably other possibilities if you persist in looking.

I didn't vote because I think there are other options.

2. thanks cyn2,
I live in a rural area, no other pet shops, and almost all the other jobs are of the mall culture variety, walmart, home depot cashier. I am always looking for stuff in the area (don't want to commute, husband does that) which is how the barrista thing came up. Thanks for responding, I am still torn. I have about 1 hour left until I have to give an answer.

5. Unless the coffee shack is busy
it will get much more boring than the pet shack.

4. That is a tough call
I guess it really depends on how uncomfortable you are in your present situation. It sounds like the wages are about the same - the big difference is you have flexible hours where you are and you may not where you'd be going. On the other hand, you'd be away from the fundies. So you have to decide which is worse (or better) - having the flexibility of hours or being away from those women.

I think I might try to stick it out because of the hours thing. But then I can tune people out pretty well.

I'm sorry - this is something you're going to have to balance and decide on.
