For the first time in decades I had my morning coffee *without* a cigarette.

I quit back in March. It was relatively painless. I fell of the wagon on Nov 2. Back to a pack a day. Now I have to quit again. I am a quitter, dammit!

And I probably smoked more that day as well.

Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 03:35 PM by Kipepeo
The longest I ever quit was for about 6 months but I started smoking again the opening night of the Democratic convention and continued until 4 weeks ago...November 3rd.

I am trying again.

28. Hang in there! You can do this!
The really AWFUL cravings pass after day three or four. You may still want one sometimes--but it is not so bad that you can't just tell yourself "I will not smoke today."

My last smoke was on election night. They called Ohio for the asswipe and I had my last nicotine fix.

46. After going through hypnotism, what worked is looking at a pack of
cigarettes, pulling one out, looking at it, and telling myself if I smoke that, I'm putting George Bush in my lungs. It's the only thing that ever worked.

So I have the Shrub to thank for something.

Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 09:29 PM by Liberal_Andy
I quit Sept. 1, 1998, and haven't relapsed. Course, I had to get off the Nicorette Gum, then I had to get off the Juicy Fruit, now I'm hooked on Trident.

But that's a helluva lot better than 2-3 packs of Vantage a day.

Never did quit this :smoke: though.

59. Well, I reduced a 2-pack a day habit to a 1/2 -pack a day habit before
going cold turkey. And I dropped from 2 packs to 1/2 pack overnight after my first hypnotism session. Took another year to go cold turkey. It's the only way for me. The patch still made me want to smoke, and it's dangerous to do both.

Never thought I could do it, but I'm now at the end of day 4.

57. How many hostages have you taken yet?
I quit smoking periodically, and get fantastically angry over absolutely nothing. Since I'm normally one of the most mellow, happy-go-lucky people you could meet, the rage-thing tends to scare people, myself most of all.

Is this normal? Are you feeling this way yet, or is it just me?

58. If I were still watching CNN, Faux News and MSNBC
maybe I'd be a screaming banshee by now. But I turned them all off November 2 and followed the results on the internet. Haven't tuned into any of those stations since. I think that had such a calming influence on me it allowed me to finally quit smoking.

I suppose if I were to take hostages, though, there are three that come to mind: Hannity, O'Liely, and Tweety.

The cravings, by the way, are just beginning to subside today.

61. I quit smoking last week
I had surgery last week and was in the hospital so I couldn't smoke. I had cut way down to 4-5 cigarettes/day for about 2 months so that made it easier. I have had one cigarette since then but I figure that's pretty good since my husband smokes (but we always smoked outside so I don't have to smell it too much).

GOOD LUCK! (now I want a cigarette)
