3. i was a girl scout
i don't recall a lot of xtian indoctrination, but it was a tad too conformist for me back then...late sixties. a lot of fun though...thanks for the suggestion. i will check out the modern girl scouts.

14. Girl Scouts keep up
I was a leader about ten years ago. They work incredibly hard to be inclusionary. Changed some of the God stuff to do that as well. Changed the program so that it would be more interesting to city kids. There's even quasi-troops that are more like interest clubs. As a former leader, I'd say hunt down your local troops or Service Unit. State and National get way too much money, imho. And unlike Boy Scouts, local Service Units don't tend to get much local financial support. There's lots of good groups out there. Internationally, www.madre.org looks excellent to me too.

7. Here's one that caught my attention today.
Pacifica radio is having a nationwide one-day fundraiser (today) to raise money to preserve its audio archive.

Noiretblu, I'm guessing you're probably familiar with the archive, but for anyone who isn't, it's pretty much an oral history of the progressive movement from the last 50 years. Some of the tapes are deteriorating and need to be restored if we want to save them. They're suspeding regular programming all day today and playing selections from the archive, and I've been tuning in every time I can sneak a few minutes at work.

If you want a little salve for our post-election soul, this is a wonderful thing to listen to. It'll remind you why the left is so important, and remind you of all we've accomplished. They've been playing recordings of Malcom X, Fannie Lou Hamer, Howard Zinn, Edward Said, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and on and on.

Tune in, and donate if you can!

....is that you'll get CDs from their audio archive as a premium, and those make fantastic gifts for fellow lefties (if you can bear to part with it, that is).
