Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer question
Last night I was watching Rudolph.... on CBS and noticed it seemed to have changed somewhat. There were differant voices for some of the characters and the scene where Rudolph's dad stuck the fake nose on him was missing. The sky was green and it wasn't my TV because I kept messing with the color knob but that wasn't it. I've been watching this since 1966 nearly every year and it did not seem, look or feel the same. Did anyone else notice this?

16. We're a Couple of Misfits
was in the original version in 1964. Later versions added Santa landing at the Island of Misfit Toys, and to make up for the added time, they cut the Misfit song, and inserted the shorter Fame and Fortune. Misfits was later edited back in because it fits the plot line better. I'm not sure how they compenmsated for the time.

3. Weird--I watched it last night, and that scene was in it.
I've watched it every year since I was old enough to sit in front of the TV--didn't notice any difference at all last night.

14. That scene was there. Donner paws the ground and gets dirt
into a little ball and puts it on his nose.

I didn't notice anything different.

4. the song..
"Silver and Gold" sounded a bit warped. Seemed like they aired a worn-out dated version of it. Well at there are dvds to play over and over.

5. I've decided Rudolph has a bad message
and that message is: C O N F O R M.

Your differences will NOT be tolerated, even by your parents or loved ones, UNLESS that difference is directly beneficial to the group and can be exploited by them.

That is the message of Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer.

Sad, but true.

9. Sort of. EXCEPT....
I do think that's the message, as is the message of almost all mass media.

And the structure is the predictable set up conflict -> conflict erupts -> conflict is resolved.

But the fact is virtually no one is endeared by the resolution of the Rudolph puppet-mation. What everyone talks about, what everyone cares about is the conflict.

People love Hermie, and the misfit toys.

You never hear people going on about how wonderful it is that Clarice and Rudolph end up happy together.

So whatever the message, what people take away from it is something different.

6. Couldn't watch it-
I tried, and I remembered that I didn't care for it as a kid either.
The animation was too jerky, the sound tinny, and the whole thing with sasquatch was strange.

7. This reminds me of when I once started watching In The Heat Of The Night
Something was wrong with it, but I couldn't figure out what. Then I realized I was watching it in color and I dialed it out. I mean, that has to be the ULTIMATE "black and white movie", LOL!

10. Next they will mess with good ol Charlie Brown..
Another favorite of mine.

WHen I was a little kid, I remember crying when Rudolph and others were all afloat on the ice. Boohooed like a six yr old. Literally.

12. That show IS Christmas to me.
It seems like every year when we were gettin' our tree on, that show was playing.

I loved those days as a kid.

17. I think Yukon Cornelius is, in fact, a lesbian.
But then again I think the whole cartoon is one delightful homoerotic romp.
