"The Stepford Wives"- a Beast Man review
I rented this over the weekend, and I have to admit, it was much better than I expected. Nice little plot twist, too.

1. It was kind of fun wasn't it?
Not something I'd watch again and again, but it was fun :)

2. I keep hearing mixed reviews about it...
They played it strictly for laughs (Paul Rudnick wrote it, duh). I remember the original quite well ("You're the KING, Frank!"), so I was iffy about the remake.

Maybe I'll check it out.

6. I despise Paul Rudnick.
I don't think I will ever see the "Stepford Wives" remake. I loved the original and don't want my memories of it sullied. I made the mistake of watching the remake of "Carrie" a couple years ago. I'm not going to make that mistake with this film.

7. It's camp, but good camp.
If I recall, the original was serious, but it turned out to be pretty campy as well.

10. Oh, it was serious. But come on...
it definitely had its campy side (the scene where Joanna stabs her friend, Bobbi, with a knife while Bobbi calmly says "Now, why did you do that, Joanna"? is definitely on the campy side)

I also remember when the original came out, it was held up as an allegory of feminism...which you may or may not believe.

3. I agree, but I thought the ending was a little weird.
It was interesting to see the ultimate lifestyle of all the little barbara bush's running around.

4. Wasn't the author of the original book the same person who wrote
Rosemary's Baby? I remember reading something like that somewhere.

5. Yes. Ira Levin.
Also wrote, besides those two, "Sliver", the dreadful movie with Sharon Stone and William Baldwin.

11. Also the "The Boys From Brazil".
That's a fun movie, with Gregory Peck as Mengele.

17. Is Rosemary's baby any good?
I think I'm one of the few people who has never seen it. Wasn't the Astronaut's Wife loosely based on this story?

20. Rosemary's Baby is a very good movie, IMHO
Very suspenseful -- not a lot of gore, but implied.

The scene at the end was horrifing -- Rosemary finally getting a look at her baby.

again, not strong imagery, but implied.

8. I loved the original
I need to get pass my self-imposed quarantine on all things Bette Midler if I want to watch the remake.

and that is a lot of paperwork.

9. It was cutsie and not really supposed to BE
the same movie as the old one. I thought it had its funny moments. Sure makes fun of men though.

12. Worst Movie EVER! Wasn't funny, wasn't scary, wasn't anything!
Unbearably bad. Plot, script and direction were only topped by yet another pathetic performance by Nicole No-talent Kidman!

Please get her out of movies that might be watchable otherwise!!!!!!!

15. Oh, how I hate that movie! I loved "Strictly Ballroom," so how could
what's-his-name make such a wonderful movie, and then start making such crap like Moulin?

14. I saw it over the weekend too
silly movie (the original was much better but really the two shouldn't be compared as they were both going for different things). I do have to say that Bette Midler had the funniest lines in the whole flick - the pinecone part had me roflmao!

16. I thought the best scene was a deleted scene
The one with Bette Midler where she goes through all her robotic capabilities complete with beer freezer and lawn mower..lol.

19. Nice. I'm glad you posted this. I was debating renting it.
Nicole Kidman kind of gets on my nerves, you know? Did you find her grating at all?

21. No, compared to everyone else,

she was a bit understated. Typical Christopher Walken, though; especially with that delivery of his.

23. someone pointed out a major continuity flaw
i can't remember exactly...saw it in the summer...but weren't the women's bodies in the basement of the house? So were their bodies switched or just something in their brain?

You just saw it...do you know what I mean?

24. Yes, that bothered me.
1st the women were robots, giving out money like ATMs, sparks flying from their necks and non-flammable (Bette's hand in the flame on the stove). Plus, we see the "new" Nicole on the table when she and Matthew are lowered into the lab. Then at the end, they're real women with brain implants! So which is it, Paul? Frank? Robots or implants?

And I suppose if my husband had transformed me into a living robot (or did he kill me and replace me with a robot?), I'd call it all even if he had to do the grocery shopping now. :eyes:
