What songs do you remember from Elementary school?

39 now, so no clue what sort of things they are singing nowadays. What songs do you remember.

12. Fine with me, was raised baptist, went to pentecostal church in teens

(of my own desires). Not sure I know that song though, but the title sounds like something I would sing in church :)

it in the sixth grade which was about 1974 for me. We used to sing in church and in school. Actually the singing was one of the few things I enjoyed about that school at the time.

Fun fact: When I was studying in Europe in the 1980s, an Irish friend informed me that they had made up new lyrics to the Coca Cola jingle: "I'd like to join the IRA/ And furnish it with guns..." I've never been able to think of that song in the same way again.

11. Elementary school?!

Uh, that was a little while ago (I started Kindergarten in 1964, for heaven's sake).

I remember "Oh Tannebaum" (Wisconsin has a more than a few people of German extraction), "Downtown" (was that Petula Clark?), and a song about balloons ("Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?" by the Fifth Dimension, perhaps?). Also, I recall we had a grade school talent show, and I was part of a "band" that lip-synched Mamas and the Papas tunes.

I'm guessing this is probably an old slave song; I have no idea how or why our first grade teacher had us singing it. :shrug:
