1. Did you (FReepers) know that YOUR LORD Jesus Christ was a JEW? |
|
That's right. YOUR LORD is Jewish. YOUR LORD is NOT a Christian. He is JEWISH!!!

8. Actually, the fundies I grew up with knew that and liked that |
|
which is one reason they liked jews and Israel.
Jesus was a jew, who called out other jews and discussed with them their failings (as the prophets before him had done several times).
The cool thing about Jesus is that he saw through the BS and got to the point with people, a deeper point than many of them were used to hearing.
Freepers (per se) are not against jews, unless you count those on liberty forum and such as freepers :)

9. He also probably didn't have white skin |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 10:33 PM by jaredh
His skin was most likely olive or brown and his hair was probably black. Stupid fundies think Jesus was a white republican.

I've been going to church three-times a week for 30 years and have never heard otherwise.

14. Buddy Christ makes sense... |
|
Christianity is based on the fact Jesus got off the Cross and ascended into heaven. But yet the biggest symbol of christianity is the crucifix with Christ still hanging there. I think we should stop mourning our faith and start embracing it. Just like Serendipity said in Dogma. Duckie

5. Here is another possibility. |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 10:31 PM by mzmolly
Starting with the assumption that Jesus resembled a typical peasant from 1st century CE Palestine, Richard Neave, a medical artist retired from the University of Manchester in England, and a team of researchers "started with an Israeli skull dating back to the 1st century. They then used computer programs, clay, simulated skin and their knowledge about the Jewish people of the time to determine the shape of the face, and color of eyes and skin." 2 Mike Fillon followed the research and wrote an article about the portrait in "Popular Mechanics" magazine. 3 He said during a CNN interview that: "There are very strong rabbinical laws in Israel that you cannot tamper with a skull or any bones, so they needed to reconstruct the skull. Using a cat scan, which is very common in hospitals, they were able to recreate the skull precisely and make a cast of it. Then they put small wooden pegs, based on anthropological data, to figure out what the muscle structure and the skin would look like, and so they layered that on using clay-like substances." 4
The result is shown in the left portrait above: a person with abroad peasant's face, dark olive skin, short curly hair and a prominent nose. His height would have been on the order of 5' 1"; he would have weighed about 110 pounds. Alison Galloway, professor of anthropology at the University of California in Santa Cruz , said that: "This is probably a lot closer to the truth than the work of many great masters."Edited to add link: http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jcfa.htmWe'll never know what Jesus actually looked like, but it's interesting speculation. ;)

10. I've always liked that picture. |
|
It's highly doubtful that Jesus had the blue eyes and Western European features usually depicted in religious artwork. He was, after all, a Jew living in what we now call the Middle East.

Jesus is the "Lamb of God." His unconditional gentleness and love IMHO are expressed in this depiction:

...said he had blond hair.
Wherever did the preacher get that idea? And why was I raised in such a bizarre environment? :)

not too much because then my fantasies about Jeff would be weird-bordering-on-blasphemous. *g* ----------------------------------- Would Jesus love a liberal? You bet! http://timeforachange.bluelemur.com/
