I don't watch or listen to the news channels since the day after the election but surfing the channels for a movie the other day i think i listened to someone as they were saying that americans take way much too many medications--- my thought was, what are they going to do now? are they going to stop those who need meds from taking them?

...up until about March or April of this year I took Concerta, Zoloft, and a bunch of other stuff. It cost over $200 a month for all this (and I think that was AFTER any insurance benefits). I decided one day to just stop taking them, and haven't needed them since. Since I'm not in school anymore and my job deals with computers, I function very well without them. And for some reason I'm not as hyper as I used to be, but sometimes I can be mildly hyper, but no where near as bad as I used to be. The only thing that I can't really concentrate on are computer and video games.

Two for asthma and one for chronic pain. My cat also takes prescription meds for hyperthyroidism. I'm seriously thinking about buying my drugs online once my refills run out. We changed insurance and now I can't afford to go to the doctor to get my prescriptions refilled (they are only good for one year, then the doc has to write a new prescription). Also, since the FDA is cracking down on doctors prescribing pain meds, it is harder for me to find a doctor who will risk giving me my needed prescription. Try living with degenerative disc disease in five Lumbar discs, one bulging Lumbar disc, and a neurological condition caused by the pressure on the nerves which causes burning and numbing sensations down your legs without pain meds! No way!

3 on atrovent...as needed and as pretreatment
3 on Singulair 10 mcg daily
3 on Allegra 180 (one of my kids doesn't have asthma but has seasonal allergies, the other two take allegra daily year round)
1 on Allegra 60 bid
1 on levsin as needed for IBS cramping
1 on megesterol (appetite stimulant for 4 mths related to IBS eating issues)
also a combine 6 burst of prednisone for the year...

non-prescription cost not included in the 1720..is
2 on zantac 75 bid
1 on nasopure sinus wash bid

asthma can also be caused by certain environmental conditions and things that cause damage to the lungs (some survivors of 9/11 and OKC bombings, smoke inhalation, coal dust, extreme preemie whose lungs were not completely developed, people w/repeated lung infections that lead to scarring, etc)..

First one for MS, the second for asthma. The latter has obviated the need for my inhaler. Best respiratory drug i've ever taken. The pressure on my chest has dropped to nearly zero since i've been on it.

The betaseron has checked my MS. My condition has stabilized to about the same for over 9 years. I have bad days, for sure, but when those go away, i come back up to where i've been the whole time. No progression of dysfunction. That's a good thing.

Also, i got on it really quickly after diagnosis and a British study indicated that not only was it good to get on the drug sooner to halt progression and neuroinflammation, but the efficacy of the drug is higher when you start early after onset. Works for me.

usually for ear infections. I was on some narcotics a while back and developed a little problem so I got off of them and got a new Doc. She helped me kick by never prescribing anything more than anti-biotics. I did try an anti-smoking drug, but it made me feel like I had been snorting coke for a week without sleep. I decided to forget that and just keep smoking. If I'm going to quit, it's going to be without pills.

Unfortunately I am probably going to be taking the cholesterol drug the rest of my life. A depressing prospect, but better than dying too early or having a sucky quality of life.

I forgot I'm also doing an antibiotic 10 days a month for the next three months for a problem my doctor and I are trying to clear up. Nothing life-threatening, but we are doing this low dose and are exploring other avenues on it, too.

I hate taking pills, but there it is.
