3. Mr. Magoo it is!
Good music for a cartoon, too.

It's available on DVD, by the way.

12. I loved the Magoo Christmas Carol ...
.. but it rarely gets a showing on UK TV. Yes, remember the songs being particularly good. Anybody know who wrote them?

15. Jules Styne and Bob Merrill
I saw it again last December for the first time in probably 35 years. Though not on a par with The Grinch or Charlie Brown, I thought it held up remarkably well.

Since I know more about animation now, however, I was distracted by things that I barely noticed as a kid.

6. HOLY MOLEY!!!
How could I have forgotten that one. Talk about not dotting one's i's and crossing one's t's.

I took out the one of the bear (which I'm sure hardly anyone has seen, anyway) and gave the spot to the Grinch.

Thanks for the wake-up!

8. There's not a Charlie Brown holiday/tv special I didn't like.
Made before 1980, of course...

I also fondly remember the Thanksgiving and Halloween eps. Great stuff.

13. Mickey's Christmas Carol, helllooooo......
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 08:15 AM by tjdee
Mickey is the cutest as Bob Cratchit.

But, I also like Rudolph and the Grinch.

What I don't like are all the new animated "insta-classic" ones.
They're just kind of thrown together and they stink.

14. The first "Mr. Hankey" episode of South Park
It clearly illustrated the dangers of attempting to de-Christianize Christmas.

It also had the heaviest scene I've ever seen in a Christmas special--one that shows what has happened with Christmas in the real world. At the very end, after Kyle gets let out of the mental hospital and everyone in town sings the Mr. Hankey song, they cut to the South Park Public Access studio...where Jesus is in there all alone, depressed as hell, singing "happy birthday to me."

It had everything a good Christmas special should have. Talking turds. A fistfight. A simulated live birth. Someone's mom getting called a bitch by a two-minute song. The hazards of cheap wiring, rickety ladders and uncovered aquariums. Everything, man.

16. Charlie Brown's
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 08:29 AM by Wright Patman
voice was done by some other kid later on. I still remembered the original voice and never could get used to the new one. I suppose this is inevitable given the ravages of puberty that had no doubt affected the original voice by then.

The same thing happened in "The Flintstones" with Barney Rubble (not because of puberty, though). They changed the guy doing the voice at some point. The new Barney had a very high-pitched voice compared to the original Barney. It seems like whichever voice I hear first in an animated show is the one I prefer.

The animated Dr. Suess is better than the full length movie that came out a few years ago.
