Jerry Orbach of TV's 'Law & Order' Diagnosed With Cancer, Continues With Filming Schedule

NEW YORK Dec 2, 2004 — "Law & Order" actor Jerry Orbach has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his manager said.

"We expect he'll be fine. He's been playing golf, shooting his episodes and doing real well," manager Robert Malcolm told the New York Daily News for Thursday editions.

Orbach starred for 12 seasons in the original "Law & Order" series, but left to head the spin-off "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," set to debut next year.

So far, Orbach's illness has not disrupted production of the new show in any way, producer Dick Wolf said.

3. An Observation
I am not knocking people's enjoyment of their favorite personalities, but ...

Have you noticed how this culture tends to encourage the cult of personality? The little people end up careing about people they don't personally know. Those idols who may not care about them, and might not even want them around them.

The personality cult may be fun or seem normal, but I think it has many drawbacks.

First, it is a commercial tool wherein the "personality" makes money, (a living) off of being recognizable.

Second, this plays into politics where people are conditioned, (or predisposed perhaps) to consider personality over policy, integrity, and other important isssues, as per Reagan, Bono, Arnold, etc.

If we are going to shift the paradigm, it is an issue like this that tends to work counter to emergent behavior-oriented transformations. In other words, it keeps us stuck in a bankrupt culture.
