Well another Democratic friend of mine got laid off.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 04:40 PM by Bouncy Ball
Good guy, works hard. Worked for a giant computer company doing networking.

Hey bush, go FUCK YOURSELF!!!! Then go fuck yourself again. Then go fuck off. Three times. Then rot in hell you bastard.

Getting laid off right before Christmas is doubly shitty. He's got two kids.

The day after the election, he came over to talk to my husband and I and actually choked up. Got tears in his eyes (I've never seen him like that) and said he really feared what might happen with another four years. Well, he lost his job just a month later.

1. My sympathies to your friend.
Companies that layoff employees right before Christmas are absolutely evil. I hope he finds something soon.

that I personally know of already. Just in the last month. I hope he does, too, but he's in a field just littered with layoffs. He was afraid of this, but they kept telling him he was secure. No severance, either, isn't that nice? He's spitting nails over that and going to fight it. He worked for them for 15 years.

:scared:

7. No severance for a loyal employee of 15 years?
That is outrageous. I am truly sorry.

9. Thanks
but I seriously doubt he could move there. All of his family and his wife's family are here and they are also taking care of his mother-in-law, who is seriously ill.

The last four job descriptions sound like they are right up his alley, too. I will pass this on to him, anyway, who knows?

6. If you include me, Bouncy that's five!
Fucking Bush voting boss of mine wondering why the economy is bad- why people are only buying fucking electronics to escape reality with instead of the clothes we make.
Asshole, his parents are old and rich and he can't see far past the inheritance tax thing!
Motherfuckers are shorting me on what they owe me too! I'm probably going to be on here begging for legal advice soon.

8. bettyellen, I'm sorry it happened to you, too
Perhaps your local EEOC office can help ensure you get all that is owed to you.

all the crap they gave me about loyalty and family and blah blah blah, I turned down other offers, and they replaced me with a kid making 1/2 my salary... and lied about it.

10. Oh no, betty!
I am so sorry, I had no idea.

How much worse is it going to get? I'm almost afraid to ask that question. Every time we hear of someone else we know getting laid off, we get more scared.

12. Thanks, it sucks alright. I've worked a total of 10 years for these
assholes and have put up with a world of shit from them.
They are really fucked up, I think I am going to at least threaten a lawsuit to get what was promised. I would never have imagined it would come to this.

13. here is some "free legal advice"
don't know where you live but most states have a Wage Act that allows you to recover "extra" - to include reasonable attorney's fees - if an employer has "shorted" you on your compensation. If you think they paid you less than your due, threaten action of this type and they may just buckle to avoid litigation costs.

They weren't specific about amount, but promised severance as well as to pay me for the vacation time i didn't take. The human resources person said they didn't tell her that and she also goofed that I took a week when i took two days. I am expecting to get a check from them that's inadequate. I'm not sure I should cash it.
