and i'm in love with them, but by virtue of being in love, i fear that there might be a "catch" that i haven't yet caught. anyone had a bad experience with netflix? any warnings to offer? thank you.

1. Once in a while they hold up your movies a bit...
You know, delay that mailing process.

But other than that it's good.

3. So far I love it.
Quick turn around, I've found. But I'm new too. I like being able to throw a title in the queue when I think of it, instead of trying to remember what I wanted when I'm at the store.

:)

4. only slightly annoying thing

is when they send you unplayable (too-scratched) DVD's. You can send it right off for a replacement or just for the next one on your list, but it's still a bit of a pain. (Edited to add - this has only happened to me twice in my seven months with Netflix.)

for me, though, it's a small price to pay for more selection and more convenience than Blockbuster, not to mention supporting a Dem-owned business over a Republican one. they also lowered their price for the 3-DVD's-at-a-time service from $23/month to $18/month a while back. I'd never heard of a company voluntarily lowering prices when they weren't just trying to edge out competition before.

18. Dem owned business?
Is that true? If so, that would explain why, for the first time I've ever heard of, a company LOWERED their fee because their subscribers requested it. :)

5. Ooooh, Netflix, how do I love thee?
Honestly, I am so hooked. And where I live I don't get a single TV station. My only warnings:

As they have gotten more popular, my movies take about a day longer than they used to. But they still get here unbelievably fast. My guess is that it just takes them a little longer to get them processed in and the next one out, so it doesn't get mailed in time for a 2 day turnaraound anymore.

Also, if you rent more obscure movies, they will often take longer to get to you, since they have fewer copies it could be sent from far, far away. Things like Chomsky documentaries or random classics.

But I LOVE it. It is the one monthly bill I have no problem paying. And it is so nice to get an email saying 'your monthly fee has gone down $3. No need to do anything, we'll just charge you less from now on'. Hell yeah.

7. I like Netflix
They cycle the movies fast, and don't send me a lot of stupid e-mail, except to say they've shipped/received something. My first go-round with them, I was having lots of trouble with the movies I sent back never getting there, and finally I cancelled. But I joined back up a year ago, I have a different mail carrier now, and things are going smoothly.

17. I also had a few movies lost

when I dropped them in the insecure outgoing mail at work. I called them and they were very nice about it, no fines or anything and no interruptin of service. But always drop your returns in a secured mailbox so no one can filch them.

10. Netflix Rox!
The only drawback, and it isn't really a big deal, is that there is a little more planning involved. So, if you spontaneously feel like renting a certain movie, you have to put it on your queue and wait for it. But really, you can just go down to your corner video store if instant gratification is needed.

12. they used to send out lots of spam email
They sent me lots of spam, in spite of my repeated demands that they stop. That's why I will never buy from Netflix.

20. I have never had any problem with NetFlix
The delivery on the DVDs is almost overnight, since I live in Georgia and that's where their main distribution point is. And I have had to file a report a couple of times because I did not receive a DVD and they immediately sent another. In my opinion, NetFlix rocks!

21. 3 years Netflix customer, no problems, not one.
It's just flat out Great. In dinner discussion over Thanksgiving with another like-minded soul, we were brainstorming how to boycott MSM by boycotting cable, offering Netflix as alternative to keep the young ones occupied (adults too) during long winter months. We were actually trying to think how to kick start it and make it a massive roll-over in our state, starting with Seattle. Wouldn't that make a dent if thousands just quit subscribing to cable or satellite? And if it was successful in one large city, think if it caught fire and rolled across other large cities.
