How do you measure out 4 gallons in one jug perfectly using only those two jugs and unlimited water, as quickly as possible?

You're going to have to end up with 4 gallons in the 5 gal jug. Maybe you could pour one gallon out of the 5 gal jug into the 3 gal to get that, somehow? But, in order to do that perfectly, you'd have to have 2 gallons in the 3 gal jug, right? So, how do we get 2 gallons in the 3 gal jug? Well, 5 gal - 3 gal is 2 gallons... So.....

Fill up the 5 gallon jug, then fill up the 3 gallon jug with that. That leaves you 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug. Dump out the full 3 gallon jug, then pour the 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug into the 3 gallon jug. So, now the 5 gallon jug is empty, and you have 2 gallons in the 3 gal jug. Fill up the 5 gal jug again, and use it to fill up the 3 gal jug the rest of the way....that takes 1 gal out of the 5 gal jug, leaving you with 4 in the 5 gallon jug.
