Whatever happened to Kate Bush?
She released several marvelous albums up until "The Red Shoes" in the early 90s...I kinda miss her!

1. She had a name change
She couldn't stand people asking her if she was related to the president

3. She's almost finished recording a new album
It should be released in mid March, 2005.

6. Let's hope.
We've been hearing that since, what, 1997? I guess she got sidetracked with the kidlet, but still.

They play the video for 'This Woman's Work' on VH-1 Classic at least once a week, and it almost makes me cry that she hasn't done more over the years.

13. Not a hope, it's the truth
She's been in the studio for many months. Quite a few musicians have been quoted as saying they have worked on various tracks. Peter Gabriel has also confirmed she's finishing a new record.

December 1st 2004: Peter Gabriel has been interviewed by the Toronto Sun newspaper, promoting 'Play', his music DVD collection. "Kate had a son and lost her mom and I think that kept her (occupied)," said Gabriel. "I spoke to her quite recently in fact and she's just about finished on a new record. It is exciting. She's being a mom and loving it. So, if you like, music's gone from being full-time to being part-time, so that slows you down. She pointed out (she takes) even longer than I take," joked Gabriel. (thanks to Rachel and Dresden)....on November 28th Stuart Elliott, Kate's drummer, was interviewed at a session in a church on the BBC programme Songs Of Praise. He said that he has been busy recording drums on Kate's new album and that recording on the album had just finished (thanks to James Smythe and David)...

Latest Official News

According to musician friends of Kate she is still busily recording her eighth studio album and is said to be "happy and full of energy". In a recent Mojo magazine feature her business manager was asked when the new album might be released, the reply was "how long is a piece of string?". Known contributors to the new album include Mick Karn (he says he played bass on a track called 'How To Be Invisible'), drummer Stuart Elliott and jazz percussionist Peter Erskine. The late Michael Kamen wrote the string arrangements for two tracks which will appear on the new album - she recorded with him and the London Metropolitan Orchestra at Abbey Road in October 2003. Chris Hall has played accordion on one track. Classical musicians Emma Murphy and Susanna Pell have also recorded for the album. Del Palmer is said to be engineering. Kate has had her new recording studio serviced and upgraded and started recording in late 1999.

18. I know she's been working on it --
I just meant 'let's hope it finally comes out!'

I know Michael Kamen's death pushed back the release date somewhat -- she and Kamen were good friends, I guess, and she felt like she wanted some grieving time after his death. It just seems like this has been foreshadowed for so long I sometimes wonder if it's ever going to make it to the shelves.

4. The Ninth Wave...and Julias Blog
Her album "The Ninth Wave" was spectacular, in my own subjective world. Some very deep experiences happened to me while listening to that album.

I did like all of her material. And I had sort of forgotten about it until that "Julias Blog" which was the first time I openly wept about "Black Wednesday".

9. Ninth Wave is the second half of 'Hounds Of Love'
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 02:14 AM by Philostopher
It's tracks 7-12; the first six are 'Hounds of Love.'

The second half is sort of a concept group of songs. The first half isn't so closely linked.

12. Oh
Well in that case I definitely relate, side two on that album is as a whole sublime, a suite of songs together that I love and was lucky enough to have others hear for the first time and also love...

I'm sorry I had never heard it referred to as an album in itself so interest was piqued...

19. It's listed that way on the cover, I think.
I have most of her commercial releases, either on vinyl or CD -- I've never found a CD copy of 'The Dreaming,' which is the one I most often find myself going back to. Never wanted a CD copy of 'Lionheart' especially, and I have the rest on CD.

I think she may have intended something more than the second side of an album for that suite of songs -- if I remember correctly, it was written with the intention of being used for a soundtrack, like the one she did for some of the songs off 'The Red Shoes,' but it never was produced, though I could be misremembering.

8. I still remember how jarring Ruining up That Hill
was when it came out...

Kind of like Laurie Anderson meets Petula Clark.....

Assessable pop music with a wicked twist.....

11. I just remember the few songs I heard on the
radio....

I was in a band and we couldn't play Kate Bush so I just would perk up when she came on...

I had to listen to a whole lot of music that I didn't really like but had to learn in order to ge gigs....

Still, we managed to throw in Jethro Tull, INXS and 10,000 maniacs along with "Free Bird"

14. I don't think any band could do a good version of a Kate Bush song...
even if you could approximate the sound of her music live there's the deal with her voice...her stamp maybe? It is truly singular...

20. To me her great body of work...
starts with her 3rd album, "Never For Ever", followed by her 4th, "The Dreaming" and her 5th "Hounds of Love"..."The Sensual World" was a teensyweensy bit of a letdown but I still love it, and then "The Red Shoes", her last full album...
Her first two albums, "The Kick Inside" and "Lionheart", have their moments but to me she was still developing her own unique style then...To me the middle three are the essentials, at least so far, I'm looking forward to her new album!
