In honor of his passing 11 years ago, favorite Zappa album/cd?
I'd have to go with Bongo Fury w/Captain Beefheart as a personal favorite.

Apostrophe/Overnight Sensation as a close 2nd (fav. studio album).

2. Apostrophe - hey maybe you could help.
Zappa recorded one of his last tours and it was released. I think a live show at the tower in philly or maybe NY. the encore is Stairway to Heaven with a full horn section doing the Jimmy Page solo note for note! I need a copy. Do you know the name of the disc?

14. I'm a rebel...The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life!
"Broadway The Hard Way" was my first FZ album, so I have a special affinity for the 1988 band, and "Best Band" collects a lot of the classics with sparkling new arrangements. It's my goal to collect recordings of every show they played. I think I'm close to half.

FRANK ZAPPA
"Tis THe Season To Be Jelly" A very interesting live Zappa CD from 1967 in
Sweden. So much of this is early Mothers of Invention stuff on here like "You
Didn't Try To Call Me" and "It Can't Happen Here (five minute freak out!!). The
CD runs for 36 minutes and also includes"Bristol Stomp", "Big Leg Emma" and
"King Kong" plus more. Regular price $13.99 -- Special price $9.99!

24. "Peaches" is from 'Hot Rats'
"Apostrophe" is okay, but too close to the mainstream Zappa-misconstrued-as-novelty-act norm for me. Maybe a good way to introduce someone to him, but by no means even close to his best. He put out albums like that to finance his better but less accessible ones.

29. I agree-it is a lot more "mainstream"
than his other albums.
And I was thinking of Apostrophe, not Peaches! D'OH!

20. You Are What You Is
From 1981. Contains "Dumb All Over", "Heavenly Bank Account", and "The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing". Plus the soon-to-be-timely again "Drafted Again", a self-remake of the then out-of-circulation "I Don't Wanna Get Drafted".

Also other favorites include:

"Freak Out!", "One Size Fits All", "Joe's Garage Acts I, II, & III", and "Läther" round out the Top 5.

Back in the Valley Gurl days of the 80's.

I'm so glad I delved deeper into his catalogue. I'm more a fan of the Mothers & Don Van Vliet years.

27. All 60's Mothers albums rule
"We're Only In It For The Money", "Absolutely Free", "Uncle Meat", etc...

I'm a Beefheart fan too, and I love just about everything he did from "Safe As Milk" to his last one, "Ice Cream For Crow".

28. Filmore East, June 1971
the plain wrapper cover.

It really put his showmanship on display. It also reintroduced us to Flo and Eddie of the Turtles. It was the best live Zappa performance of the three I attended.
