13. Apparently, "Arizona" is from an Indian word,
although I always thought "arid zone" myself.

16. But many Indian words were assigned to indians by Spaniards.
As well as tribal names, etc.

Si quiere Spanish - pues, recordare quando en los "Reagan Years" algunas personas activaba por "English only?" Gente estupido! San Francisco = Saint Frank. Sacramento = The Sacrament, California. Sobretabilita = Stolen Election (just kidding).

17. I got --
California
Colorado
Florida
Montana
Nevada

But maybe only Colorado, Florida and Nevada are purely Spanish words. California, from a Spanish book, could have been an invention -- would that count? and Montana is apparently as Latin as Spanish.

Authority:

Doubts about New Mexico and Arizona for reasons mentioned. I wondered about Oregon but apparently nobody knows the source. I see nobody fell for "Texas" -- from the Caddo Indian word for "allied country."
