3. I didn't see the Bobby Knight movie |
|
But Hu$stle was SO bad. I know it was supposed to take place in the 1980s, but it just looked bad. Considering that: (A) Their movies are historically bad; and (B) I'm a sushi-eating, latte drinking, NASCAR-hating, elitist liberal, I'd say the likelihood of me watching "3" is pretty slim.

6. They talk about this in the paper's TV listings pullout today |
|
The little blurb about the movie claims that Barry Pepper's appliances made him look "uncannily like Dale Earnhardt."
And then you look at the cover--this guy doesn't look uncannily like Dale Earnhardt; how the hell can you take a 160-pound man and try to pass him off as a 200-pound man?
I think "3" may be the best racing movie ever made, for two reasons--Earnhardt fans will send hand grenades with the pins pulled out of them if the movie is truly bad, and racing movies as a general rule suck ass. Look at the contenders. "Stroker Ace" was designed to appeal to rednecks and even they say it's pretty bad. Richard Petty says the only thing even remotely authentic about "Days of Thunder" was that they put numbers on the cars. And what was that fuckin' CART movie Sly Stallone was in--the one where they showed open-wheel guys running their racecars through traffic in the middle of the night?
No one will ever tell the truth about Earnhardt on screen because the education establishment in this country won't allow it. Dale Earnhardt was a grade-school dropout who taught himself to be a better businessman than most of the people packin' MBAs. How can you ever convince a child that he has to stay in school to be successful if word gets out that Dale Earnhardt dropped out of school in the fifth grade and went on to make $45 million in the year 2000?

7. watching the previews for ESPN movies |

I always wonder where they get their really bad wigs??? It seems that the budget for wigs must be pretty low because they all look (especially the Pete Rose one) like they have a dead cat on their heads!

8. Who cares? The life of a guy who drove in circles. Big deal. |
|
Bobby Knight also drives in circles in real life as well. No shock from me, child TV stars grow up to do dangerous and/or dumb things.
