4. Where do you live--it may turn up
Right before our cross-country move last summer, my SO's truck was stolen right out of our driveway. We were still in Austin at the time, and the APD were less than helpful. No real investigation, etc. Miraculously, the truck turned up about 8 days later. The thieves put 1600 miles on it and totally trashed it, but at least it came back and we could make "final arrangements."

It's always a bummer when this happens, but don't worry too much about your vehicle. They usually don't come back to the same neighborhood, unless they're looking for a particular type of vehicle. Make sure you lock your truck and leave an outside light on.

Hope it turns up unscathed. Bummer, yes.

5. see, that's the thing -- it was stolen right out of his driveway
I live in Atlanta (Stone Mountain).

Thanks for the tip -- just made sure it was locked up, and put the light on.

6. Every single person I know fairly well has had
A car stolen or broken into/things stolen from. I've had 2 cars stolen. One was never found.

Car thieves are the pond scum of the criminal world. They steal from (usually) hard working folks. Find the car? Great. Pay your f'ing deductible, cuz that criminal ain't gonna. So, you're out one week's pay? Two weeks' pay? All because some assclown wanted a joy ride or to make a couple bucks. Fuckers.

7. One word -- LoJack
I have had LoJack on my car for the past 5 years. They guarantee recovery within 24 hours. Don't know how much it is to install now, but it wasn't too expensive 5 years ago.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor. I had a radio stolen out of my car years ago, and my parents had their suburban stolen years ago as well, both in Houston.

HEZBOLLAH!

That really sucks about your neighbor though. Hopefully they'll get his car back.

10. My car was broken
into last Sunday night. My DH wanted to check out this open mic night at this club in downtown Toledo. We were in there for a half hour and came out and the driver's side window was broken and my CD player was stolen. Thankfully I have a small deductible and had ithe window fixed, but it still sucks. I hope they find your neighbor's car.

11. Sure is that time of year. Was walking by a sushi bar with my niece
and we were amazed that so many cops were inside eating Sushi. Needless to say, they were not there to eat. Place had just been robbed.

13. I had a neighbor who claimed his car was stolen from his driveway.
Later, we found out that it had been repossessed.

14. Mine got stolen june 28th in the middle of the day a shopping center
it turned up 2 1/2 months later after i had settled with the insurance company. The adjuster had me go down and see if there was anything left in it, what a joke, they took everything down to the cup holders. Now i don't leave anything in my car at all, no cd's, sunglasses or even any of my daughters school books. When the police came to take the report they actually told me that "Hundreds of cars get stolen here at this center every year." "Really, did you want alert people to this or do you wait until their car is gone?" I haven't gone back to that area since then.

15. I'm sorry CatWoman...
...I know it can put the wind up you as well.

I had my car broken into about six months ago. The lock on the passenger side front is very hard to use now. My mum is forever saying how hard it is.

Funny thing was NOTHING was taken from my car. I had change sitting in the console, still there, I had a pack of smokes sitting on the console, they were still there, I had my cell phone sitting there (I forgot to bring it in with me) that was still there.

Then about three weeks later, we went away for the weekend to visit my sister in a small country town, about four hours away from here. When we got back I went to unlock the front door, and low and behold I didn't even have to turn the key, the door just opened on its own.

I walked in side very hesitant and looked around to make sure my TV, VCR, and DVD player were still all there, they were. My mum walked in saw the look on my face and asked what was the matter, so I told her about the door.

With that we started looking around at everything. This person who broke in had taken a shower and left a wet towel on my bedroom floor, they had gone through all our personal papers, had made cups of tea, watched DVDs, and gone through my drawers.

I didn't notice it then, but a few days later I was putting laundry away in my drawers and noticed something odd. Side note: I wear thong underwear, and like every smart femme I keep one pair aside for special occasions. This one pair were like new. But when I was looking through my drawer I noticed something didn't look about them, so I pulled them out, and low and behold they had been shredded! I mean there was HUGE holes in my thong. I showed my mum and said that is it, I threw that pair out and took every pair out of my drawer and rewashed the lot.

Funny thing about the house break in was, again NOTHING was taken. I had change in my bedroom, it was all still there. I had my digital camera sitting on my bookshelf, that was still there.

Very weird time indeed. I am still thankful Sapph always taught me to hide my laptop if we were going away and not taking the puters with us. I did that this trip, and it was still where I left it when I got back. All trips I have taken after that, I have taken the laptop with me. Because that is the way Sapph and I communicate most with, I can't afford to have anything happen to it.
