QUESTION:What does "F_ckin' A" mean? |
|
Heard it a few times in my life. Kind of know what it means but not exactly. I know it kind of means damn straight but can anyone break it down for me?
Thanks

1. Is it short for "You bet your fuckin' ass"? |
|
I'm pretty sure it means the same as damn straight. You use it in the same situations.

The twist is that the person doesn't want to swear by pronouncing "Ass", but does not mind the "Fuckin' " part. (IMHO) My grandpa was a minister and would say "Oh, the D Diablo!" - which meant to him; "Oh, the damned Devil". Euphemisms will save the folks who say, Heck, Darn, Shoot, Shucks, Son-of-a Gun -- Mother of Pearl, Godfrey Daniel, Fudge... When I was growing up I lived across the street from The Pottymouth Brothers, and I saw the transition move from "You bet your fuckin' ass", through "Ya betcher fuckin' A", to the final shorter, euphonious version which has become SO popular. Well, why not? SOMEBODY has to invent this stuff...

"F**CKIN' A" meant "you bet your...", so you got it pegged. I grew up where F**K was used for everything from and exclamation to an audible comma! Guess where I am from originally?!

F_ckin Asshole, although its not used as an adjective it is now an exclamation, generally of disgust but sometimes of supreme approval. Try it with a smile and see how it feels! Fuckin A right!

I don't know what this phrase means now... LOL.
Hope that's ok with you.
(Pssssst. See post 14 below... Perhaps the meaning hasn't changed, after all.)

8. I don't know, but I do know ... |
|
Aussies and maybe Kiwis say "F'ckin Ada" and I don't know where that comes from, either. I also don't know which came first, or if they're related, but I remember hearing somebody say that in an Australian movie at least fifteen years ago.
