Switched to Fire fox!
Microsoft IE blows, and I'm convinced that its the most unsafe browsers out there.

13. "Spyware" being installed is a myth
a website can leave cookies, find out the last site you visited, find out what kind of computer you're using, find out what domain you're coming from. That's about it.

The only way spyware can be installed is if you open an attachment. Also, many sites rely on popups to function correctly.

I'm sticking with Netscape.

29. Not entirely true....
Spyware can be installed by way of those popups from like Comet Cursor or The Gator Corporation or Lop.com or Xupiter and various others like Porn Toolbars that link themselves onto IE through the use of ActiveX controls.

6. Don't forget tabbed browsing.
I've set up all the areas I go to here on DU by bookmarking each section and putting them all in a single folder in my bookmark list. When I want to go here, I just select that bookmark folder, and at the bottom is the selection "Open in Tabs"
I just click that, and now I've got eight tabs open with the sections I visit here on DU. All in one browser window. It's spiffy.

5. Did you know you can personalize a toolbar at the top
of your Firefox browser so that you have one click links to your favorite websites right there on your toolbar?

That's my fav feature of Firefox.

23. Oh cool, DU's on there for me too.
I have so many up there on my toolbar that I had to give them 2 or 3 letters only (to fit a lot in)--it looks like the NY Stock Exchange abbreviations up there!

24. You can put folders on the toolbar, too
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 01:05 AM by starroute
I have one for political links, one for other current interests, one for practical stuff like banking and shopping, etc. But only the stuff I use all the time, to keep it simple.

Just right-click on the bar and choose "New Folder."

9. Not to mention..
.. there's loads of funny extensions & themes you can add to Firefox.
I'm using the FirefoxModern theme, which is really spiffy, plus I have some anti-spoof extensions, an RSS reader, a stock ticker AND, to top it off, a little monitor that tells me how freaked out the DoHS is right now. At the moment, it stands at yellow - SCARED!

I'm no computer expert ... but I've had no problem accessing DU. In fact, DU and its features ... everything has been hummin' along. Go figure.

17. My favorite extension is Bookmark Synchronizer
I can keep all my bookmarks synchronized between 4 different computers at home and at work, so I can get distracted by DU no matter what I'm doing.

25. You forgot Poland -- I mean, OPERA! :D
Opera has the features of FireFox and then some. (Fun fact: Most of the "new" features of FireFox and Netscape are imitations of the features Opera's had for ages!) It's also a very small, fast program, so you can even use it on old PC's. I could spend all day extolling the virtues of this lovely browser, lovely enough that you don't have to pick a new skin for it (though you can, from the dozens of skins available in the Opera Community site)...but it's enough to say that it freed me from the tyrrany of Micro$haft Internet Crasher.

Oh, yeah...and the way clickable buttons on the web now GLOW when I hover over them is way cool, too! Any day now, I expect to see Netscape trying to copy it...!

This site tells all the awesome stuff you can do in Opera, which is a quick download, even on dial-up:
