I guess I know my cats pretty well given that they were showing the wrong end! I do know that the shape of the face is different and a lot of male cats (but not all!) have fuller faces.

13/16!

Much better than I thought I'ld do.

But I do have a rough idea what a fully adult
unneutered male cat looks like ... they've
got heavy skin pads and hair around the face, it helps
in male-male dominance fights, prevents injuries.

My favorite cats are males, my favorite humans
are females.

I love little girls kittens also but I am partial to boys.

Was it the black and gray cats that stumped you?

If you number the cats like so:

1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
9 10
11 12
13 14
15 16

I had trouble with cats #6, #7, and #16.

#6 looks a bit like my own tabby tomcat, though
not as pretty, and I thought I saw a hint of pads
around the eyes.

With #16, I think it was all of the fur behind
the cat's face that fooled me. On looking at
#7 now it's harder to tell what led me astray,
I think it's also the long hair that confused the
issue.

It's interesting that it's possible to be right
as often as people seem to be ... the results
posted are way better than chance. I'ld like
to see how it comes out with a large sampling
of people.

10. It's hard to tell sometimes
My three boys (down to 2) all were/are huge. Dax (the one I lost) weighed in at about 16 lbs. Garibaldi is 18 lbs, and Jean-Luc is about 16 lbs.

The girls are smaller, though some are/were weighty. Jessica, who has diabetes, lost half her body weight, going from 14 down to 7. Kira (another loss) weighed in at about 6 lbs., but she was the runt of the litter (Dax is/was her brother). Amanda, who I inherited from a friend, is a rotund girl, and at 12 or so lbs, she's not exactly a lightweight. Delenn, Garibaldi's sister, is about 10-11 lbs.

Most--not all--ginger cats are male. Those with some white with the red are more girls than boys. Calicos are 98% female, and the males with calico markings are mutants. I'm not kidding! In order to have a male calico, they have to carry both the red and the black chromosones, which are both carried by the female. In order to have that male calico, the last chromosone must be XXY, so that they can carry the male gene and the two colors. As far as I know (this might have changed with more research), male calicos can not breed because they are sterile. Maybe that's why John Asscroft hates calicos--they're all females! :)

White is the random color. It will appear in a wide variety of places and in varying degrees of dominance. Usually, but not always, white cats who have two different colored eyes are deaf. Turkish Vans, which are mainly white with color patches, have "breed" markings--they will have a huge color patch on their backs, and their tails will always be colored.

12. You have a very rare calico
My cat had three calico kittens and I thought that I got a boy out of the bunch so I gave one of the kittens a guys name. I was calling the kitten Stewart until he was about 6 weeks old and the vet said Stew needed a new name because he was a she :wow:

When I found my stray cat Randy Andy he was so skinny that I couldn't tell what sex he was.

I was hoping that he was a girl but the Vet pulled the tail up and asked me if the cat looked like a girl now :wow: :dunce:

18. I only missed one, and the guy kitties all have that cocky look about
them as pointed out by another poster. Also, even neutered males have a certain burlyness about them.
