Update on my neighbor. She died.

For those of you who have read my posts about the fire in my townhome complex, and the 86 year old woman victim...
I found out late last night that Hilda died sometime on Friday.

Please, please all my fellow DUers, have working smoke detectors. Hilda didn't have any.

Please, please don't use space heaters while sleeping, that is the suspected cause.

I hope none of you ever have to experience what we went through Thursday morning, watching a fellow human being suffer such agony. It was horrible. I feel selfish even for saying that, because of what poor Hilda herself suffered.

The universe is so cruel sometimes....I feel life just not worth it.
I'm just feeling really sad and angry right now.

1. Sorry to hear that, you are right about smoke detectors.....
In my state NY the FD's make it and issue to remind people to change their batteries when they change their clocks in the spring & fall. They do work. I've see the results of working detectors save more than a few lives.

2. May Hilda rest in peace....
with her little Bogart. What a cruel thing to happen.

Point well taken about space heaters and smoke detectors. And, I would add, we should all have carbon monoxide detectors also.

6. Thanks for saying that.
It is comforting to think that they are together and happy now.
I hope so....

3. Burns are extremely painful.
If she was burned over very much of her body, recovery would have been very long term, very difficult, and very painful, especially for an 86 year old. Even though you're hurting, try to think of the fact that she won't have to go through that and the fact that having lived 86 years, I'm sure she wouldn't want her friends to feel badly for an extended time.

4. Awww, that's just awful. I'm sorry for her and for you.
Do a lot of people use space heaters to save on power and heating bills?

Aww, I'm just so sorry. What an awful thing all around.
