Does anyone know of a health insurance option for people who are unemployed? I get laid off soon and I'm looking at options.
Primarily I need insurance for valtrex, but I've never gotten insurance seperate from an employer before and I don't even know if there are (real) affordable options out there...
edit: thanks all of the info. Quick searching about this canadian thing looks VERY promising. Does anyone know much about it? Is it safe and legal to do?

If you live in an area where you can get Kaiser, check it out.

2. Of course if you happen to be sick....just give up. |
|
Because it'll be a cold day in hell before you find a plan if you happen to have a chronic illness.

when I changed jobs and could afford cobra. Ins at the new job didn't take effect for 3 months. It was by far the least expensive, and one of the few companies who even offered short term policies. I would think that's what you are looking for since you have no way of know ing how long you will be unemployed.
BTW, cobra was $855/mo and the BCBS policy was $255. It didn't have the drug coverage with it, but I was more concerned about some unforseen emergency than I was about a trip to the drgu store.

The author's guild has a tie in with Oxford (I think), but like Lu Kang my main concern is the pharmaceuticals- I take many meds, particularly of the antidepressant ilk.

but I checked around and apparently you can order this drug (with prescription) from (going to leave out link for the canadian web site for now in case it's not legal) for a very low price.
However, I am not sure if that is legal or not anymore? I remember hearing something about it.
Anyone know?
edit: Also I have no idea about if that site is safe. Maybe another canada place would be possible? I have no idea though.

the price and quantity look very good.
I do not know if it's ok to do that either. I know some people order drugs from canada. Does anyone else know anything about it? Could I do that?
