Interstate Idiocy

Heading south on I-65 a few days ago, approaching Montgomery, AL. In the left-most lane of 4.
Doing 75 in a 55 zone, but staying with the flow.
Evening rush hour traffic.
An SUV comes up on my bumper and flashes her (as it turned out) brights.
I reply with my caution flashers.
"Back off."
She flashes her highs several times. Can't get around me on the right.
Miz t. says "Maybe it's an emergency?"
Maybe so.
I speed up a little and pull into the next lane.
She whizzes by.
Does the same thing to the next car up.
They don't pull over.
She pulls into the left hand breakdown lane, next to a concrete "Jersey" barrier, and passes them.
Holy shit.
We pass the hospital turnoff and she doesn't take it.
Is this bitch just in a hurry?
I dunno. There could be other-than-medical emergencies.

Moral: If you are in an emergency situation on the road and really NEED priority handling, turn your flashers on FIRST. I've done that on a late night run to the ER and it's amazingly effective. If someone won't budge, THEN use your high beams and blow the horn.

1. You were better off letting her pass...

Rather than having her lose control trying to pass you.

I was heading up the WVa turnpike (I-77/64) about 75 last Christmas season. Had a yellow Eclipse pass the vehicle I had just passed on the left, cut me off on the right and pass me on that side.

Not 1/4 mile up the road the Escort started singing and Mr. Mitsubishi rushed into the radar arm of the State Police.

2. traveling home from work

in my little crx on interstate five in northern illinois....i was cruising about 75-80 in the left hand lane, which is easiest and safest for passing trucks
,they can`t see me at all if i`m behind them. i went thru an intersection when i noticed two jeeps approaching
on my right going at least 90+. i looked over and both jeeps had woman drivers with at least 4 kids in each one. the first jeep driver was yelling at her kids...i backed way off cause these idiots were really over the top and i certainly didn`t want to die..i`ve always wondered if they ever got where they were going....

5. I've got a good one

But not on an Interstate. This was on US 41 in SW Indiana. I am driving my car with my 2 1/2 year old daughter in her car seat. We are driving 60-65 in a 55 (four lane highway) and staying with traffic. This woman comes barreling up behind me. She is in a Lexus and I also notice she has two kids in the back that are as young as mine and not in car seats. She rides my tail as hard as she can, but I am turning left to stop for a drink. She goes around me on the RIGHT to get into the LEFT turn lane ahead of me. She had to have been doing 70-75. She ends up stopping at the same place I do to get a drink, so of course she is off and running before I am.

Five miles down the road, a State Trooper has pulled her over! I was so happy, because she was endangering everyone, including her unbuckled kids!

I have lots more stories because a lot of drivers in IN are idiots, but this one had a great ending!
