Do you like Venors ginger ale? |
|
It is hard to find here - just had my first taste this week. I could really start to like the stuff.
It's like no other...

We can get it here, but I prefer Canada Dry. Vernors has a strong, unpleasant taste.
It's dirt cheap, though. Too bad for me the stuff I like isn't.

12. I've never had it, didn't know it was ginger ale. |
|
Isn't it pretty much ginger ale with caffeine though? Which is kind of a deadly combination, if you think about it ...
Was very popular with my fellow students at Northern Kentucky University, back in the day.
Comes from the same place my mother's family does -- Winchester, KY.

9. Vernor's was very unique>>>> |
|
in that it used to be aged in barrels. That's why it had such a powerful flavor. It was fairly localized to the northeast (I may be wrong on this point) and when it went national there was no way enough could be aged to make it profitable. Hence the real diminution of the real Vernor's Ginger Ale.

16. Vernor's was Detroit, all the way |
|
Never saw it in the Northeast. I got acquainted with Vernor's when I married someone from Detroit and we went to visit family there. The factory had a big glass window so that you could watch the bottling take place from the sidewalk. Very cool.
There's a combination that might sound awful, but is really great - another old Detroit tradition:
Vernor's and cream. Pour some Vernor's over ice, and then add a couple tablespoons of heavy or table cream.
It's terrific.
But, if you're really into ginger ale, check out Blenheim's. That's the real ginger ale. The real goods. Blow the top of your head right off, it's that hot.

is what I used to have as a kid when I had the stomach flu. So, for me ginger ale = puke.
The ONLY one I'd ever drink, though, is Canada Dry.
