1. So-so....it can only go so far.
I have had some discs in such bad shape even SD couldn't help.

Plus it'll wear your arm off if you don't get the motorized one.

2. We sure used ours a lot
until one of my kids lost half of the parts. Worked well for us but I would imagine a deep scratch might be impossible to fix. Liberal Vet above is correct, it really wears out your arms.

3. Skip the Doctor.
Try some Brasso from your local hardware store for a fraction of the price. I'm serious. The stuff works. You can Google "Brasso CD scratch repair" for detailed instructions.

4. Also Might I suggest using a cordless variable speed drill
with a buffer pad on it. If you already have the drill it is a cheap alternative. That and the brasso is what I use. It works great in just a few seconds and doesn't wear out your arm. You set the speed to low on the drill rotating the CD while you hold it in your hand.

7. What they said. I got mine cheap, at a local discount store.
Had hurricane damaged stock from Florida, so I got a motorized one for about $8.00. Works great, but probably expensive normally.

8. Does anyone know how this works on DVDs? CD-Rs?
DVD-/+Rs? I have not once in my life needed to fix a pressed CD, but I have very poorly reading discs in all those other categories...
