Commercials for "Phantom of the Opera" are they teasing us or what? |
|
Every time I see one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera commercials my heart starts to skip a beat. The first time that I watched it I jumped up and started doing a dance. I thought that my favorite play was coming to town and i would be able to see the chandelier drop again and listen to the beautiful voices.
And then it hit me it's an infomercials or a commercial for a DVD.
Did anyone else think that they were advertising new show dates? :hurts:

2. They use to sell a copy at our PBS store |
|
So I guess that means we will get the effect of being at a play if we watch it at a movie theater. Oh, wait a minute the acoustics will be better at the movie theater. :eyes:

12. You know where they are going with this don't you? |
|
I can bet that a talentless CEO came up with this idea. I have a sick feeling about this because I think they are testing the waters to find out how it will go over with audiences. If it works then they won't have to pay to put on plays anymore.
Talentless assholes are jealous of people in the entertainment business.

I still laugh when I think about either Time or Newsweek saying she sounds like Minnie Mouse on Qualudes.

I was getting ready to try out for a part as one of the singers in the booth behind the stage if it didn't conflict with my class schedule.

10. I think it looks terrible. |
|
The soundtrack is not very good...emmy rossum can't hit the note required of her, so they changed some of the music. Plus they added an electric guitar. Ugh. And they added a scene (if the trailers are right) of the phantom having a swordfight with Raoul.

14. They are going to rig the theaters so that the sound is fantastic |
|
I mean the best sound that they can get out of a movie theater and then the plays will be a thing of the past. I hate talentless dorks that come up with ideas like this. People in the arts have talent and some of us don't work out in office settings. :grr:

When I was 10, I had one of the new teachers. She was young and energetic and everyone loved her. Her favorite musical was Phantom of the Opera and she would play it for us in class. So when it came to Chicago, I went to see it and it was my first musical. It blew my mind. I have seen it twice since then, and I absolutely love it.
One of my worries with the movie is that it will detract from the actual musical. In the theater when the sparks go off and the chandelier starts to ascend, it is really cool. The theater just can't have that type of effect.

17. When the chandelier falls and you hear the real loud boom and smoke |
|
It will not give you the same feel but if people can save money and kind of get what they came for it will work for them.
I wonder if they will give an intermission and then blink the lights so that you will know that it's time to go back in for the second half.
I almost forgot they will need to hand out some stagebills. :D

18. When you see it, or if you get ahold of the soundtrack |
|
let me know what you think of the music. I thought the electric guitar was really lame, but that's just me. I think the phantom kicks all kinds of ass and he doesn't need no stinkin' guitar to make him cool :P
