Did you ever have Saturday detention in high school?
I started thinking about that movie The Breakfast Club, and how they have this Saturday detention and I'm like...I've never heard of anyone having a Saturday detention! Have you?

1. Yes, and I was there with a football player
We were stuck there for about three hours, and it sucked.

3. No.
And I haven't ever heard of a group of misfits at odds with each other become great friends over the course of a day, either.

I liked that movie when it came out, but I saw part of a rerun a month ago and found myself cringing, so I quickly changed the channel.

4. Yes I had a number of them, I loved taking Saturday detention because
all the bad kids could hang out together and meet up and make plans. There was almost never constant supervision. Maybe an older "monitor" would poke their nose in from time to time.

Surprisingly we would actually do much of our homework and try to help eachother out if we could.

I even started a homework for hire ring through Sat. detentions. Several friends made some pretty good cash doing assignments for others...

FYI Breakfast Club came out when I was in the midst of this kinda detention system..thus I have a special affinity for the movie... thanks for the thread!

5. No, we called it Summer School...
and I pissed away two summers attending!

Of note however, all the fun people went to summer school! I did have a blast and pulled A's & B's out of my classes with the compressed class schedule.

And...

BONUS! The girls tended to display a little more skin during the summer too! :)

7. Oh yeah
Saturday Detentions took care of 10 regular detentions.
when you get in trouble as much as I did, they start to build up. If you did a Saturday, you killed two weeks worth of regular detentions.

Of course we worked our asses off on Saturdays. Often it was simply manual labor. If you did not want to work, you could do the regular one hour after school. I always took the Saturday route. We did everything from clean graffiti to paint the goal posts. It was usually fun. I met one of my girlfriends during detention and we once spent a Saturday afternoon in the girls locker room instead of cleaning markers off lockers. It was the best punishment I ever had.

8. We had it in high school....
I had to go twice. (If we were late for school more than five times, we had to go. My senior year, I was late seven times. So, I had to go twice.)

It was in the cafeteria, and there were usually 25+ kids there. It was from 8-10 am, only two hours. I got a lot of homework done then.

What really surprises me, however, is the poor teachers who had to go in on Saturday mornings. That must have sucked for them! To deal with a bunch of shitheads who couldn't get our acts together! Thank God when I taught we didn't have a Saturday detention to proctor!

10. Saturday for an entire school day
8:20am - 3:05pm
We got Sat detention for a number of things, although mine were primarily being caught smoking on school property and vandalism of the gym doors (socialist slogans :) ). We were forced to copy law books down in our notebooks. It was completely mind-numbing and ineffective. After 7 sat detentions we were suspended for three days and after 3 suspentions, we were expelled.
I hated my high school.
