And maybe some kind geography buff can explain to me what it's doing in north-western Mississippi. I have a feeling that whoever named that particular geographic feature either didn't know what a delta is or wasn't aware that there's a perfectly good word, floodplain, for such a place, or both. But maybe the joke's on me. Anybody want to clue me in?

...actually the delta -- floodplain -- watershed -- whatever, of the Yazoo river system.

Confused the daylights out of me, too, till I read Bruce Caton's description of the Vicksburg campaign in the Civil War.
