air travel with kids
just one question -- do they need identification to board a plane like we adults do?? My 11 year old daughter has a chance to fly somewhere with her aunt after Christmas... thanks in advance.

2. Nope, they don't need ID
My kids flew when they were 6 and 4...although my son would like a driver's license!

3. I would have some. My neice needed it when they left her standing
in a terminal in Portland, Oregon. :( I think having ID for everyone when you travel is a good idea. It might not be required but its a good idea. Safety first, they say.

4. No ID needed but an adult must sign for them on departure, and
There must be a designated adult at their destination to receive them when they arrive.

If the designated adult isn't where he or she is supposed to be when the children arrive, the airline will put them on the next plane back to where they departed from.

5. No idea necessary
We just flew cross country with a 14 yo, 12 yo, and 8 yo. I do carry their passports, however, just in case. But seriously, most 11 year olds don't have identification.

6. yes it would be better if she had it
It is becoming an issue at some airports. Although she clearly can't get a driver's license, she can get a passport which serves the purpose very nicely. Nowadays you can get passports at the post office so it is quite easy compared to the bad old days.

If she is flying internationally with someone who is not her mother or father, she may need special paperwork -- even for an aunt! I saw a grandfather getting really hassled because he wanted to bring a child into Mexico. I don't know if they ever let them in. They were still arguing about it when I left. The grandfather and grandchild did not have the same last name, so they needed some special form.

7. No ID for minors
I've flown with my son several times recently. I need ID, but at 13 he doesn't
