Help Diagnose the Weird Psycho Sexual Behavior of my Cat
I have a sweet, wonderful 4 year old female cat with a PECULIAR set of behaviors in the bathroom.

Any time I or my partner go into the bathroom she has to dash in to monitor everything. She likes to watch us pee, and then runs to the sink faucet and check to see if it's dripping.

If you turn it on forher she quickly loses interest.

She also likes to watch people in the shower, and if you offer her your hand she'll lap the water off your skin.

Basically anything anyone does in the bathroom is of major interest to her. Just being there is enough to make her purr. And she used to gnaw on my hand when I was in the bathroom, and arch her back in a freaky almost sexual way.

She is otherwise extraordinarily sweet and well behaved, but has a weird fixation on the bathroom.

When we moved into this house she was put in the bathroom for a couple of hours while we moved in and I think it somehow imprinted on her as HER space.

1. My cats will sit by the door whenever company
uses the bathroom. Kinda funny when people walk out and see a row of three cats stairing at them. Cats just don't like to be kept out of anything.

As for water, they are all facinated by it. One pushes his water bowl across the floor, dips his paw in and splashes.
The other one sits by the tub when I take a bath. When the shower runs, he's always poking his head in the door. And yes, he likes to lick the water off my ankles.

I guess they like water, as long as they're not imersed in it.

9. Well, there ya go!
They love water. I think they link the sound of running water, but they also kinda like to play in it.
And she is a real beauty :)

4. We had a cat like that too
She used to sleep next to the toilet. I think she liked to listen to the tank filling. She watched us take showers, use the tub, use the toilet, run the water - anything.

Outside she spent a lot of time splashing her paws in the fishpond and watching for fish and frogs.

Some cats love water. Go figure!

5. Every cat I've ever known has had a bathroom fixation.
They all love to watch humans peeing. Most want to be right there with you, either rubbing against you or on your lap.

I think it's related to the cat "thing" about putting their butts in your face. Think I read somewhere once that cats do that as a big compliment to other cats. Maybe doing that is something like saying, "I trust you enough to turn my back on you." They're probably totally hurt that we don't offer our butts to them. So having your ass hanging in the wind and peeing is the closest they'll ever get to having unclothed human butt to examine.

8. Playing lifeguard.
After all, you, her beloved human, are nutty enough to go get water ALL OVER YOU. What's wrong with you? She has to make sure you don't drown.

As for the peeing thing... it may be that she's making sure you're not sick. She's taking care of "the kitten" and monitoring your health.

All three of ours are/were convinced we can't use the bathroom alone safely. The two who are still alive will sit outside the bathroom door and meow loudly if they're not allowed in to safeguard us.

10. Many of our cats love the bathroom.
My Maine Coon can open the door himself if it's not locked, so he just barges right in. He loves to watch the toilet flush and sometimes gets a good look by putting his front paws on the seat to watch everything swirl down. He also loves the shower and can't wait for the shower door to open so he can get in and start drying things off.

Some of our others lie on the floor outside the door, and reach under to see if they can snag anything close by. One loves to sleep in the sink. Most cats love a dripping faucet.

I've heard of a cat who refused to drink water out of a bowl. He/she preferred to drink from a dripping faucet.

12. Mine all love the captive audience that being in the bathroom provides
Clark jumps in the shower stall the second I am done. He also supervises tooth brushing and face washing

Thomas has been known to use the toilet on occasion, but not enough to warrant getting rid of the box. ON occasion he will ask us to flush the toilet so he can watch the water.

They all like to hang out in the other bathroom when anyone is in the tub.

I once had one that liked to hide from me; if I needed to find him, all I had to do was flush the toilet and he would come running!!!That cat could not resist a good flush, it was hysterical. He also liked to drink from the leaky faucet in the bathtub in one house we lived in. When we moved to another place without a leaky faucet he just about went nuts!

I don't know why it is but they do love to be in the bathroom.

I also have a little two step stool in my kitchen, and all of my cats love to sit on it an watch me cook.
