Do you have a blog? I have some questions....
I just started one. And I have some questions.

How did you get the word out about your blog? Mine is not necessarily political in nature (yet, but I'm sure it will be in time) and I am not sure how to get the word out about it. Do people just sort of "discover" blogs? Or do you have links to yours in different places, or what?

Do you like having a blog or not? Does it have some overriding theme or purpose, or is it just musings on life and whatnot?

1. Mine started out about politics, now it's all about me.
Ugh.

2. I did for awhile.
Then I closed it publicly after a couple of months because I just wanted to keep my writing private. On the site, you could put your blog under various categories and a few just kind of stumbled into mine and left comments or links to theirs. I actually rarely write in it now, but it's nice that it's there even if it's more of a journal at this point in time.

3. i have a blog
but i haven't updated in a month

what site are you associated with? I do journal space. basically if you hit a lot of journals there, they are told you've been there and can look at yours. if you have a topical post you could post it here of course and people would visit.

where is your blog, i'll take a look

5. It's at blogspot
and I'm not sure I'm ready to publicize it just yet, just wondering what people do to do so.

Thanks! I will probably eventually make it part of my sig line here or something. Just kinda seeing where it goes right now.

9. I had one at blogspot for some time too
It was pure, unmitigated bullshit (which is more than I can say for most bloggers) but all I really needed was to befriend someone with a huge friends list. Eventually added more and more friends for greater exposure and readership.

As a matter of fact, try to get added to EVERYONE'S friends list. Regardless of whether you know them or not, just submit a request to be added to their friends list and they probably won't refuse because it appeals to their ego

4. I have two...
one personal, boring, random life-musings which I didn't publicize at first beyond my friends. Send them an email, they'll check it out eventually.

The other one is political, and I haven't really been successful in publicizing it. I would guess that posting it on message boards would help.

As far as liking it, I find both to be quite therapeutic. I started the policital one on November 4 (for obvious reasons) and it gives me a safe place to vent.

6. best way to publicize is to get other blogs to link to it
--but they shouldn't be expected to link to it until it has some substance, when the quality of it can be seen.
Gradually link to others, then at some point ask them to reciprocate. As you surf around you will find sites that are relevant to yours, that you will want to link to.

7. blogs
How did you get the word out about your blog?

You patronize other sites and link to them. Send comments on stuff they've written and send links to stuff you've written on a similar topic. Join forums and make sure your URL is part of your sig. Also, consider buying ads in others blogs who sell ads.

Do you like having a blog or not?

Yes, it is fun, though a lot of work. Some can take over people's lives, so you have to be careful not to let it consume all your free time.

Does it have some overriding theme or purpose, or is it just musings on life and whatnot?

Depends. If you are going to muse on life, then I advise being funny. Musings of life are great, but not always a big draw. Themed blogs tend to work better.

One bit of advice I have is get your own domain that is easy to remember. Long URLs are a pain.

8. you can add it to directories
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 05:57 PM by Menshevik
there are a few such as http://globeofblogs.com

also, if you live in a big city, there might be a site that lists all the bloggers in that area (ie there is http://www.nycbloggers.com or http://londonbloggers.iamcal.com ...etc)
