Coolest band names
By far, no contest, teh coolest band name EVAR is:

DINOSAUR, JR.

I dare you to tell me a better one!!

(I've always thought "The Beatles" was a pretty clever name too... but not really all that cool)

7. SONIC YOUTH!!!
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 06:22 PM by radiofreesrini
the name "sonic youth" is incredible on so many levels.

* it describes their band's determination to conquer all sonic potentials
* it sounds like a movement that YOU want to JOIN!
* it sounds like a "hardcore" band, which lent a tougher edge to their music, which might have otherwise been derided by the punky holy-rollers who controlled the underground at that time as "punk floyd"

here are some sonic youth covers i've recorded:
http://www.radiofreesrini.com/mp3/schizophrenia.mp3
http://www.radiofreesrini.com/mp3/stereosanctity.mp3
http://www.radiofreesrini.com/mp3/cottoncrown.mp3

and one dinosaur jr cover because "you're living all over me" is one of the best records of all time:

http://www.radiofreesrini.com/mp3/inajar.mp3

in my opinion a band's name ought to be an integral component and reflection of its music, and not just something "silly". remember the New Fast Automatic Daffodils? i didn't think so :)

(second place for best band name in my opinion: SHELLAC)

14. Tav Falco's Panther Burns
This guy's version of "Train Kept A Rollin'" brings a whole new meaning to the words "tone deaf." I love it. The other song on this 45 is "Red Headed Woman." Both are recorded "live."
