Poll question: Futurama or The Simpsons?
I think they're both great, but I personally prefer Futurama, because a futuristic setting presents more opportunity for obvious social commentary without making it look obvious.

4. Futurama.
Simpsons were good in its hay day, but Groening and all the good writers left for Futurama.

6. Ehh...the Simpsons at it's best? Because the episodes now are iffy.
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 07:29 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
I was greatly disappointed with Futurama when it first debuted. But it got better and better with time. I was very sorry to see it cancelled and I watch it every day in reruns.

The Simpsons started off good and fresh, and peaked around season...10 say. These new episodes are pretty lousy IMHO, and if you compared the last season of Futurama to the last season of the Simpsons, I would have to go with Futurama.

On edit: I would rather they cancelled the Simpsons and let it go out while it still had some sort of credibility than do what I fear they will do. They will probably run it into the ground until it fades quietly into the sitcom night. It's to big a cash cow for Fox and they will hurl money at the producers and actors until it is not profitable anymore

Sorry, it's just my opinion. I think I'd find a dead pigeon more hillarious.

:)

Nixon: Computers may be twice as fast as they were in 1973, but your average voter is still as drunk and stupid as ever. The only thing that's changed is me. I've become bitter and, lets face it, crazy over the years, and once I'm swept into office I'll sell our children's organs to zoos for meat, and I'll break into people's houses at night and wreck up the place! Mwahahahahahaha

11. Have to go with Futurama as well..........................
The Simpsons are still funny, but the haven't been REALLY funny since Conan quit writing. There have been sporadic moments of brilliance, but overall its kinda tired. It should be allowed to die a natural death, it'll have its immortality in syndication. But I still watch it sometimes because its far better than anything else on.

Futurama had serious potential on FAUX but they put it in the shittiest timeslot imaginable. That immediately killed almost all the potential the show had of succeeding. In the war between sitcom vs. NFL, sitcom always loses. Maybe Groening rubbed Murdoch the wrong way? Why else the tombstone timeslot? :tinfoilhat:

12. Of course Groening rubbed Murdoch the wrong way?
Look at how conservatives are portrayed in the show. Fry's a dad, a bona fide conservative cold warrior, is a lazy paranoid asshole! Nixon's, well, pretty accurate. It's a very liberal show. It makes one wonder how a Groening show ever got on FAUX in the first place. It's a near miracle that the Simpsons are still alive.

15. Simpsons wouldn't be around if Fox didn't need them
It's the best show on Fox and gets the ratings on Sundays. If the Simpsons had pulled the crap they pull now when they were a new show, they never would have made it.

He had it listed down as his favorite show and guest voiced a couple of times.

Al Gore: "That's why I'm offering a bag moon saphires to the first scientist who can solve this problem once and for all."
Crowd: *ahhh, uhhh, whoaa*
Al Gore: "Lovely, aren't they?"
Wizard: "Saphires? Muhuhahahaha. With those, I could open the gate of garage!"

26. Gore: Our next presenter is—
Prof. Farnsworth: I demand the floor!
Gore: Yes, it's your turn the speak.
Prof. Farnsworth: Well, nuts to me! I'm taking the stage!

Also...

Amy: Hey, Professor, you're a professor.
Prof. Farnsworth: Absolutely not, I won't go!
Hermes: Strange, you haven't acted this suspicious since I found those "ape bones" in the basement.
Prof. Farnsworth: My hip hurts! I'm in the middle of cooking a turkey! I have warranty cards to fill out! I am not just making excuses! All right, I'll go!

36. Minor quibble.
It's more like "...I could open the gate of Garrash!"

i.e. some weird fantasy genre name that somebody writing out a transcript might misunderstand.

33. She was actually a writer, not an animator, I believe
I *may* be mistaken, but I don't think so.

I'm reading her book "Sammy's Hill" now.

The commentary with her onboard is fantastic!

16. No brainer here - Futurama:
Futurama was clever, witty, daring, and used sci-fi to escape the idiot critics (who hated the show regardless).

Simpsons had its heyday and appealed to the masses more, and had its own share of creativity, but my heart is for Futurama.

21. Shame it got cancelled.
I still believe that Simpsons should have been cancelled and let go before it was completely run into the ground and ruined. Futurama was cancelled because it was always changing time slots and being preempted for football.

But then again I say that about almost every line in almost every episode.

Couldn't get more clever than that, though.

30. FUTRAMA hands down...
Though the Simpsons is #2.

Futurama, however is perfect. In four seasons there are only a handfull of less-than-extrordinary episodes.

Easily and without a doubt, the BEST TV SHOW EVER!

All glory to the Hypnotoad!
