Wow! Eddy Merckx is RACING again!
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 10:14 PM by BiggJawn
In his prime, 30 years ago...

Then after retirement, and "The Good Life", he starts to look a little like a certain unknown Indiana duffer...

But he decided to get rid of the weight and start riding again. This picture was taken in Israel last week at a Triathalon...

Here's the story: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/509934.html

Merckx steals the show at Eilat triathlon
By Yair Ben Ami

While Eddy Merckx has not participated in a competitive cycling event since 1978, the commotion caused by the Belgian's presence at this weekend's triathlon in Eilat was comparable to that of any current sporting star.

Merckx is in Israel as the guest of the Israel Triathlon Association, which hosted the 18th Israel Triathlon Open Friday...

...Despite the fact that he will celebrate his 60th birthday soon, it was clear that Merckx is still a formidable athlete. He completed the 40-kilometer race in less than 75 minutes.

Wow. I'm inspired.

3. Wish *I* could do it!
My PB for 40 kM is 119 minutes.

I got my work cut out for me, but I fell off my bike running an erand today (Should know better than to jump curbs obliquely) and I think I've bruised some ribs and banged up my knee. Hurts to breathe.
So no hamster-wheel riding for a day or two...

4. Amazing! I saw Merckx at a trade show after he retired, and we joked
about his nickname, "The Cannibal," because he looked like he'd eaten a couple of folks for real. He looks GREAT now. There's hope for me to get my riding weight back!
