Thanks for your advise....

1. The resume will express why you were unemployed for that time... |
|
Just make sure to plainly label the school part with what years/months you were there. They'll understand. And it's not a abig deal. Duckie

2. You should (1) include it in your cover letter, and (2) |
|
list it with your education at the top of the resume - then list your work experience. It will be self-evident comparing the two so long as you include dates.

3. How recent? Is the degree pertinent to the job you want? |
|
I've helped write resumes for people. Here's my advice.
If the gap is years ago, don't sweat it. You can gloss over the gap by simply listing the years you worked at each old job, not the precise months/days.
If it's recent, I'd mention in a cover letter that you returned to school to obtain a new degree, particularly if that degree is in a field that makes you more qualified for the position you're seeking.

I have to remember that one.
I have been unable to find any sort of work, and I live in a pretty economicaly lucky area.
I am thinking it has something to do with the fact that I have been working at my own business for the last 5 years or so.
Now that it is closing, it seems that for some reason employers are holding that against me.
My main reason for thinking that is every other reference I have is sterling.
One former boss told a potential employer I was the best employee he had in 30 years.
Anyone have a similar experiance? Or any thoughts?
I am thinking of leaving it out and making something up.
I REALLY need a job badly at this point.

5. Just got done taking a resume seminar |

Leave off any info that does not reflect well on you. Do not include months only years on time on job. They are only interested in the last 10 years. You don't have to include everything. You can also do not have to do a chronological resume. If you went to school make sure you include that in your education list and the dates. That will cover the gap.
