The headline:
AFRICAN TRIBE WORSHIPS SALMA HAYEK'S BREASTS!
A snip from the article:
The Mandinka tribe of Gambia, Africa, adheres to a religious practice completely unique to its people -- they worship actress Salma Hayek's breasts!
While most primitive societies tend to pray to animal or ancestral spirits, or to stars and planets as the Mandinkans once did, that all changed in 1995.
Mandinkan farmer Danjuma Kianga remembers, through an interpreter, the moment it happened.
"As a special treat, Chief Tuamanguluka arranged for a movie to be shown here for the first time ever. The movie was Desperado, starring the blessed Salma Hayek as Carolina, a beautiful woman who works for the local drug lord."
When Hayek first appeared on screen, the Mandinkans were blown away by the sight of the 36C-25-37 actress. "Everyone gasped -- men, women, and children," recalls Kianga. "Salma was breathtakingly exquisite. She gave off a force, a light, an energy that came right through the screen and entered our very souls." ...

Is it ethical to offer it? That's the question. I would come down on the side of yes, it's ethical. Not like they're forcing anyone to eat it.
if people want it, then have at it.

5. I don't think it's immoral. It's not like they're forcing anyone to eat. |

And it's also not like they're adding addictive chemicals to it.
Is it the "right" thing to do? Probably not. But I don't think it's necessarily wrong either.

6. Here's a problem I have about this. |
|
Ok. Here we are, the United States of America. The richest country on the planet. We have an overabundance of things that other people around the world envy us for.
Imagine that you're a person who is living in a place with widespread poverty. Eating isn't a luxury. We're talking subsistance living. Just one step away from starvation.
And somehow, you hear about this monstrosity from Hardee's. Fat Americans, frankly, getting even fatter by eating this kind of crap.
There is poverty and hunger in large areas of the world. And instead of being hated, as we currently are now, we, the United States, should be at the forefront of tackling world hunger. But, unless I'm missing something, I don't see this particular Adminstration really caring all that much about it.
So, that's the problem I have with this thing.

Of course they can sell it and anyone who wants to can eat it. End of story. It is not Hardees responsibility to solve world hunger or to try to keep Americans thin. But of course some lard ass out there will want to blame Hardees for the fact that they cannot put the fork down and end up suing them.

you are to blame, not Hardees. Just because they make it does not give you the green light to eat it. Personal responsibility, or rather the lack of it it what is straining the health care system and the reason so many people are fat. If I choose to try one of these, I take the ultimate responsibility for my actions. Everyone is always looking to shove the blame off on someone else.

17. What's the morality issue? |
|
If people want to eat one of these - or try to eat on - what gives another the right to dictate otherwise. If people don't want it, they don't have to buy it.
Personally, I have a problem with skateboarding injuries and deaths, parasailing injuries and deaths, surfing injuries and deaths, shooting injuries and deaths, and many more injuries and deaths resulting from risky behavior and activities. The problem I have is with the injuries and deaths. I have no problem with the activities. Freesom of choice, pursuit of happiness and all that.
If I should choose to become grossly obese, it's my choice. Should I choose to ride a motorcycle in sandals, shorts and no helmet, once again it's my choice.
Spare me the "cost to society arguments' unless you choose to live in a protective bubble.

there isn't one. I believe all people should be allowed to go to hell n their own way. but some people feel that it is immoral to let your selfish pursuit of pleasure put a strain on the health resources of the country, especially the public health services.
I just wanted to see how people felt about it here.

47. Eww. Granola and wheatgrass? |
|
Sorry, but I have to agree with Robin Willialms' charachter in "Moscow On the Hudson" about the two pleasures that are with you for your entire life.
More power to you if wheatgrass and granola float your boat, but I'll take a nice, thick ribeye any day. Rare, please. You may outlive me or you may not. I've lost no one to "old age' on either side of the family before age 92 for 3 generations. We all grew up on, and still eat, country cooking - lots of meat and vegetables, lard for frying and baking, etc. I can afford to eat what I want, but I prefer old fashioned country cooking. Gimme that fat and cholesterol! (All bets are off when I'm in New Orleans. Check on my itenerary and by stock in oysters and crawfish before I go.)
My point? It's not the place of others to dictate our dietary or recreational whims. (Cost to the system? Cost be damned. I pay my way.)

It has been interesting seeing the reactions. I actually expected more negative comments than I got.
As for my own opinion: I believe it to be a morally neutral issue. "Gluttony" is one of the 7 deadly sins, if you buy into that system of belief, but having one occasionally should be neither immoral, nor too unhealthy (moderation in all things).
I just don't see how you can eat the thing without a knife & fork.

It's not something most people are going to eat all the time. And if they do it's their right to do so. Hardee's can do what it wants. Heck I've known people who make burgers like that at home.
Even the Angus beef thing is a good schtick even though it's meaningless. If they're raised properly many breeds of beef cattle will be quite tasty.
