Man admits to smearing 14 jars of vaseline all over NY Motel Room

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A Virginia man admitted Monday to smearing 14 jars of petroleum jelly all over an upstate New York motel room.

Robert F. Chamberlain, 45, of McLean, gave no reason for his actions when he appeared in court to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.

A Broome County judge sentenced Chamberlain to three years of probation and ordered him to pay $3,886 in damages to the Motel 6 in Chenango.

Authorities said Chamberlain coated every object of the motel room with petroleum jelly in May. A cleaning crew discovered the mess after he checked out, and he was arrested at another motel covered in the greasy stuff.

I believe it was about 5 months ago. He himself was covered in vaseline and I believe they found porno laying around. Gonna have to re-look at the article.

check of Room 205's trash turned up 14 empty containers of Vaseline, drug paraphernalia, cocaine residue, and porno magazines, "which also were slathered/smeared with Vaseline," according to a sheriff's report. Shortly after the Motel 6 damage was found on May 9, Chamberlain was arrested at--big surprise here--a nearby Econo Lodge. The arrestee, of course, was "smeared from head to foot with Vaseline." Makes you wonder - did he bring 14 jars with him? Or did he have more and 14 was just the number that did the trick? Did he know how many jars he'd need or was it pure luck that he had enough? Or does he do this often and so knew just how much he'd need?

They never answer the REAL questions in these articles.

( where I guess he developed a fondness for vaseline ;))and has received critical raves and financial rewards for his use of vaseline-type products in his incredibly bizarre and complex conceptual installations, some of which have involved huge sculptures made of vaseline type substances.
