I hate Texas!!
Can't someone snip that hemorrhoid off the bottom of the U.S.? So much would be better in this country if they were just GONE!! No BushCo, no Tom Delay, major reduction in Fundie influence, and lots of Texas legislators gone from Congress. (Actually I'm just pissed that the Cowboys just beat the Seahawks on a miscalled out of bounds touchdown).

I still get caught calling them the L.A. Rams all the time.

4. There are still many good people in Texas
I don't think eliminating Texas will solve our problems. Maybe for awhile, but the corrupt elements of the GOP there will just regroup and move somewhere else (Arizona? Oklahoma?)

That, and we'd lose the Dallas Cowboys' cheerleaders. :evilgrin:

22. Cal is blowing my mind. When I lived out there in the '60's/70's
Cal was lucky to recruit enough players to finish a game. Great school but not a power house football program. One of their greatest football moments occurred when their band helped them win with a last minute touchdown (band was on the field and blocked other guys, haha). Now, this! Running up the score is like beating a child, it is the ultimate in pathetic behavior. Too bad there aren't more coaches who will simply not do this.

29. The GAME
I think you are thinking of the Big Game against those stanford preppys when Cal was down less than a touch down and stanford was kicking off. The Stanford band assumed the game was over, so got on the field to celebrate, but Cal pulled a rugby play and scored after four laterals, with the final ball carrier running over a couple opposing band members. I will never forgive my mom for making me miss that when she decided to leave the game early (despite the fact that I had yet to be born!)

30. Hey, WELCOME TO DU! You are the superior historian but we
both have excellent taste in avatars and professional teams. Cal and Stanford just hate each other. The Stanford weenies like to complain that Cal's stadium is filled with bad sports.

Next year, we will prevail, the Raiders that is (and also the Democrats in VA).

7. No way! Nope, not gonna do it (with Bush sr. voice)
I am from Texas "born and raised" as they say. There are great people there! Great museums, parks, restaurants. The food is fabulous! The highway system is the best in the US.

Did you know that there is a place in the middle of Texas where there are acres upon acres of pine trees called "the lost Texas pines"? It's such an anomaly! In Austin, where it's hilly, wildflowers bloom everywhere and the sky is soooooo blue -- there is a park on almost every corner and a bike path on almost every road.

My grandma was a true Democrat down to the core of her being - and there are many there like her.

I miss Texas! (been in Colorado for nearly on 16 years now) I will agree that Cowboys' fans are annoying.

cuz Oklahoma sucks....

Ok, ok, just wanted to spread the love some more...goodness, I sign onto DU and the first thing on the front page was "I hate Texas". Haven't seen anything that blunt about us since the morning of Nov 3rd when I got online! If you could still let the 38% of us Texans that went blue on Black Tuesday stay, I have no prob with the rest of the place floating off...

Here is a nice funny snippit about us TX libs

http://www.texasobserver.org/showArticle.asp?ArticleID=1812

The mere thought of liberal humor in Texas will remind many of that photo that ran for years in Esquire magazine, of Richard Nixon laughing hysterically, over the caption, “Why Is This Man Laughing?” Well hell, as that great philosopher Jimmy Buffett observes, if we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane. Besides, crying and throwing up are bad for you.

Next to cops and doctors, Texas liberals have the darkest sense of humor I’ve ever come across. But like everything else in the beloved state, it comes with a twist. Like normal Texans, Texas liberals love good stories and love language with flavor and bite to it, like a good chili.

<snip>

You can see some of that legacy in the Texian fondness for jokes in which the rube comes out on top, as in: “Y’heard about the Aggie who went to Harvard? Yeah, he went up there and asked one a them Harvard men, ‘Where’s the liberry at?’

“Fella says, ‘My good man, don’t you know you must never end a sentence with a preposition?’ So the Aggie says, ‘O.K., where’s the liberry at, asshole?’”

_______________
And here is what is not so good, thanks to shrub:

http://www.texasobserver.org/showArticle.asp?ArticleID=1829

Driving north of Austin toward Dallas during the early days of my work on the Observer, suddenly I had one of those counterintuitive ideas that chill your brain. Could it be, I thought, that instead of what we’re working for—Texas growing into a more just, less racist place—the opposite will happen? The United States will become just like greedy, reactionary, racist, poverty-blighted, religion-ridden Texas? It was one of the clichés among us on the Observer that we were dragging our state, kicking and screaming, into the 20th century. But lo and behold, as of November 2nd this year, Texas has dragged the United States back into the 19th.
<snip>

When we started out, the major oil companies ruled the politics and politicians of the state. The Texas Railroad Commission served as the production regulator for the international oil cartel. Today the president from Texas and his vice-president from Halliburton and Brown & Root rule the United States, gutting renewable energy projects while promoting coal power and reviving nuclear power, and, as if in our names, waging an illegal war of aggression against 25 million Iraqis 6,000 miles away, half of them aged 14 years or under, to get control of their oil and join the Bushes’ special ally, Saudi Arabia, in fixing the prices for the same international oil cartel.

<snip>

Those days in politics, as Lyndon Johnson once said to me in the White House about Brown & Root, “It was all cash.” The legislature and the governor’s mansion were servants’ quarters for the corporations and the multimillionaires. Only about 30 rebels in the House of 150 members and a few in the Senate actively, if hopelessly, defended the public interest. In 2004, for the first time, the spending in the race for U.S. president broke a billion dollars, and total federal election spending for the year—most of it, of course, money from the rich and the corporations—fell just shy of four billion dollars. As I asked “What Corrupted Texas?” in Harper’s Magazine in 1957, so now we must ask “What Corrupted the United States?” Big corporations and big money corrupted Texas then and big corporations and big money have corrupted the United States now.

13. What's the difference? The Eagles will crush anyone in the NFC.
Westbrook, T.O. and D-Mac are a near impossible to stop triple threat and the Defense is the NFL's best in points allowed, the only D stat that really matters. Barring injury, the Eagles are going to the Super Bowl. There will be no Cinderella team this year, at least in this conference.

I think Carolina can take the Eagles... the Panethers beat them last year in the NFC title game, and they've just won 4 straight to get them within one game of the last NFC playoff spot after a terrible start.

15. I'm from Texas, I love it, but...
..He's right. It's out of hand. Texas is a curse unto its country, politically, along with Utah, Indiana, Nebraska, etc. etc. Except Texas is so much worse because it is so much bigger.. so many congressman, electoral votes.. so much bravado and "hell with y'all" attitude. I used to love that attitude. Now I'm quite repelled by it.

I loved Austin when I went to school there - very liberal, great town. But it is an oasis in a desert of enduring ignorance.

cowboys were way behind when i checked into the game, and teased husband about the cowboys. next i see the cowboys ahead. tell hubby because i tease them, you want cowboys to win, just let me tease, then i watched two touchdown and seattle went ahead. so i guess you are saying, after i went to sleep, cowboys pulled it out. hm

well i hate texas, not cause of cowboys, cause i am here and dont want to be, wink. though to all the texans on the board, yes there are wonderful things here and i know you love your state, just having a tough moment of republicanism right now. about dying. cant breathe..........
