24 years ago tomorrow....I still miss Lennon
They were just playing "A Day In a Life" on the radio and I realized it will be 24 years ago tomorrow that John was assassinated. Unreal... I sort of feel old, but on the other hand I still have the same feelings I did 24 years ago at the age of 16.
It was one of those days that I will remember like it was yesterday. I ingested some chemical that day and spent the whole day in the smoking lounge at school. It was the outside court in the middle of the school where we would sit and jam on guitars and whatever. We also got to smoke..lol. We have come a long way. I sat outside all day and didn't go to hardly any classes. I do remember going to one and the teacher said we weren't going to do anything because of what had happened, and he had a radio playing the music.
Strange day that was. I know this is a bit premature, but this time of the year always gets me thinking back to those days.
Take care :)

I am 40 this year and that was John's age when he died. Very surreal to me.

2. John will live in our hearts forever
John's parents, Julia Stanley and Alfred Lennon were married in Liverpool on December 3, 1938.

Their only child together - John Winston Lennon - was born on October 9, 1940 in Oxford Street Maternity Hospital during a lull in the WWII bombing of Liverpool, England. John's father, Alfred, was away at sea and was not there for the birth. Alfred would play an almost non-existent part in John's life. It seemed that no one could have been happier about the arrival of this new baby than Julia's sister, Mary Smith and it was Mary who chose John's name.

John's mother was a free spirit who obviously felt the burden of raising a son was too much for her. She suggested that her sister, Mary and her husband, George, raise John instead. The Smiths had no children of their own, and happily accepted the challenge of raising John...

Just like I was on the day it happened. I was just getting into my Beatles phase and hoping to get my hands on double fantasy from my older sister. We both cried.

8. My sister woke me up for school and told me.
I just happened to have "Shaved Fish" on the turntable at the time. I will probably feel a bit strange tomorrow also.

7. John would be so helpful right now
He did so much to protest the Vietnam War, I can only imagine what he'd be saying and doing if he were alive today. "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" is making frequent appearances on my mp3 player these days...still so relevant and inspirational.

9. Now I'm even more depressed
I remember exactly where I was when I heard. It is etched in my memory like nothing else. I was in a bar and Geraldo Rivera was on the TV crying. And I remember the band that was playing came on stage and said "John Lennon is dead - he was shot in front of his home in NY". I remember the whole bar went silent. I was stunned and devistated. I started to cry and really after that I don't remember much. John Lennon meant everything to me - and to this day I cannot listen to his solo stuff - it's just too sad for me.

I'll never get over losing him - and I think many many people feel the same way.

~IMAGINE~

10. He would have been 64
I keep thinking about what he'd be doing had he lived. How would he have responded to 9-11? The war in Iraq? I bet he would have been quite the activist, even in his 60s. He would have made some awesome music, too, no doubt.

WE MISS YOU, JOHN!

12. I think there is no doubt he would have spoke up
The sad fact is..he probably would have been burned at the stake by today's repugs and fundies. They don't believe in peace and love and they probably would have said "Lennon can get his ass out of the country if he doesn't like what we like".

13. Only time I've seen my brother cry was 24 years ago tomorrow.
I was 10 at the time and had little idea who John Lennon was until the local rock station started playing 48 hours of his music (Beatles and solo music.) Then I understood, as much as a 10 year old could understand.
Only in the past four years did I realize how much the world needed John Lennon.

16. Me too. I was in the 10th grade...
I had fallen asleep with my radio on. I woke up and got up to turn off the radio when a reporter broke in to announce it. I was devestated. I spent the whole night crying and was furious when I was made to go to school the next morning.
