Seriously, can anyone explain "Usher" to me?
It was probably 6 years ago I got home and turn on some MTV show where "everyday viewers" got to rate videos. Now this was MTV so there was a lot of "It's all good" and much love expressed :eyes: well on comes this video.....there was a kidnapping and high speed motorcycle chase ending under the Eiffel Tower with lots of choreographed dance steps in the middle....it was so bad that the "all good" crowd gave it 1's and 2's (I had never seen anything less than a 5).

I figured okay this guy will play the player for a while and they will get some new flavor of the month. THEN I see that he is in a "Scream" movie released about a month later. I only remembered the name because the video (and the singing) were so horrible. They had to have shot the movie at least 8 months before that so this was a "planned celebrity".

Nothing against the guy, good for him but I just don't get it. I will add I am fully in support in the creation of a new era of 70's-esque CELEBRITIES (famous for being famous) as well as pompous rock stars.

So what is it with Usher anyway?

1. I don't know why all the Grammy nominations
He's good to play at a club, but Grammy worthy? Lauren Hill was Grammy worthy, he's not...not sure why all the hoopla.

2. Usher is as gay as gayness
Have you guys seen the video his label killed? The overproduced godzilla ripoff video? He looked like Michael Jackson taking on Gamera.

Usher is very very queer. Nobody drags their mom to that many awards shows.

6. Can you be more specific?
I guess I should have made that clear in the original post.

10. No, but I think the video is on ifilm.com
I don't like usher or what he stands for. MTV has done it's best to kill the music industry IMHO.

And as far as his gayness is concerned, just wait. I have very good gaydar. Time will prove me right.

3. He's kinda hot, and "You Make Me Wanna" was not a bad song
for cheesy pop music. He CAN dance like a motherfucker, and he's sort of bland and nonthreatening for 12-year old girls to fall in love with.

4. Phew!
I thought it was just me. In particular, I can't stand that 'My Boo' (or whatever) video.

9. NO I am sure there is a strange out of body experience many people have
They don't know why but they feel compelled to buy an Usher CD
They get to the store they find the CD but still they don't know why they are doing it.
They get to the counter and the salesguy asked them if that will be it they just stand there and finally say, "Yeah I guess so" pay their money and go out to the car and sit and look at it for a minute then snap out of it throw it behind their seat and leave not exactly sure how they got there.

IT happens all the time.

11. Usher is lame...no explaination needed.
He is a product of relentless MTV marketing.

12. "Usher got the voice make ya booty go (clap)"
Alot of his songs are catchy and he is one of the hardest working artists in R&B. His Confessions album set the R&B record for most units solid in the first week. Though I can't stand 95% of his songs or 90% of R&B just because I prefer other genre's, but there are quite a few *Including Usher* R&B songs that I do like.

13. 6 years ago he was immature and silly. Today...he's a bit better.
Right now he's kind of on a Marvin Gaye junior sort of thing.
Two of the more memorable songs on the new album are about having to tell his girlfriend he cheated on her and the other woman is pregnant; still being in love with his first love.... interestingly worded, compared to other R&B/hip hop. I don't notice too much of that kind of music, and he caught my eye this time round.

He and Justin Timberlake basically do the same schtick.
